    Firefox is vastly slower then any version of Chrome. What do you mean slowness and non-responsive? Ironically, I find FF slow and unresponsive, very odd. Get chromium;
http://download-chromium.appspot.com/ once loaded type about:flags, then enable HTTP Pipelining, disable Asynchronous DNS, then tell me that's not the fastest browser you have ever seen.

I think that can be very subjective. I don't see any real difference between the two on any computer I run & I usually have quite a few extensions on Firefox, yet only a couple on Chrome.

I don't know about Firefox, but i 've been using Opera for the past 2-3 years, up until i got tired of various crashes, widgets, unite and rest of crap. I stopped at the last 11.xx version and tried SWR Iron. All i can say is: the browsing speed was like night and day (in favour of Iron). Plus, crashes are rare. I had my jaw drop when i used Iron. With Opera opening pages was like zzzzap, zzzzap. With Iron it's like zap, zap, zap.

Opera has improved vastly in very recent releases & has got rid of Unite & the widgets. As for SRWare Iron, I used it for ages before I ever ran Chrome & I always thought it was faster than Chrome, but I got bored with its bugs & I don't use it any more.

Meh, i tried a 12.something version of Opera but speed was still lacking. Iron does have glitched releases (i myself use a previous version because with the current i have 1 visualization problem), but if you don't have many external extensions (which are usually for Chrome), it's quite stable and fast. The only thing that crashes occasionally is the speed dial extension i have, but you just reload it and it's running. The browser itself rarely crashes (at least the version i use).

I will try again Opera in the future, but IMHO, they 've got a lot of ground to catch up.

In order of importance (to me)...

    1. Disk image backup (I use Terabyte's IFW-IFD-IFL).
    2. Shadow Defender (and/or Sandboxie).
    3. MS Office (I use 2010) - especially Outlook, Word, Excel.
    4. Internet browser (I use IE9, but may soon jump ship).
    5. Anti-malware (I use MSE, MBAM, MBAR).
    6. Photo editor/Organizer (I like ACDSee Pro).
    7. Music organizer & burner (I use MediaMonkey).
    8. Windows Explorer replacement (I use xplorer2).
    9. Online backup (I like Dropbox).
    10. Nothing that I can think of - all else is of much less importance (to me).

Very true, SRWARE is based on Chromium, and I run Chromium. It's very speedy. Opera was good, I feel it has taken a nose dive. Forum threads at opera are generally people saying the browser keeps getting slower and slower, not faster. Similar things with FF, I find 3.50 to be fast, but the newer ones seem to drag. Even changing tabs has a very slight drag I don't feel in Chromium/SRWARE/Etc. Opera needs a major overhaul, the entire extension engine is so antiquated it cannot even properly run serious extensions like HTTPS-Everywhere. It actually loads the HTTP version, then triggers a reload to HTTPS, offering no real privacy. Apparently it's a severe limitation in the engine.. I wish they'd stop messing with the other junk, and make the thing lighter and faster, it's an elegant browser - if it was faster it would be amazing.

Anyway back on topic, I see a LOT of people on this list using Chrome/Chromium these days. Speed is everything.

I know I replied in this thread once, but if I were to narrow my choices to just one must have application....it would have to be Process Lasso Pro.

It's just a brilliantly made piece of software.
