    SpaceFM (for Linux).

I have not used many in Windows other than Windows Explorer.

    yeah, but which ones? :)

unfortunately, i have not seen anything as good as DOpus or XYplorer in the Linux world.

though Dolphin is pretty nice in KDE.

XYplorer is actually pretty nice, I might replace Multi Commander with this.

    Directory Opus

I have been using Directory Opus for many years and absolutely love it and would be lost without it now.

I still don't understand why Explorer doesn't even have the basic feature of tabbed file management. How could I live without that? *puppy*

one of my favourite along with DOpus.

i like that you can right-click on a button and get a whole bunch of functions from there.

the 'mouse down blow-up' to preview images is pretty sweet. :thumb:

Dual panes and Tabbed features are the two most important aspects of a file manager, at least for me.

Why Windows Explorer doesn't offer such features, is beyond me.

    By the way, guys.

Explorer++ is another free and fast tabbed file manager.

Windows Explorer is capable of tabs and more with QTTabBar. As for dual pane, multiple windows is sufficient.

In case you didn't know, Clover is also another Windows Explorer add-on, that offers tab functionality.

    Clover for Windows Explorer

Even though dual pane functionality can be achieved through multiple windows, I still prefer a third party file management tool, because a lot of them also offer other features, that Windows Explorer lacks.

That looks like a useful program and have bookmarked the site, in vase I decide to use it in the future. For now, I can live without tabs as I usually don't have any Explorer windows open.

I've already tried that and TabExplorer, QTTabBar is clearly superior. Don't ask me to recall the specifics, it should be obvious once you've tried them.

What features do you need that QTTabBar lacks? Just wondering, cause I prefer Windows Explorer's deeper integration (context menus and whatnot) to third-party file managers.

I took a look at the screenshots of them at Softpedia, and there is a big difference in terms of features. QTTabBar is highly configurable whereas TabExplorer and Clover have just a few options. However, Clover is continually being updated whereas it's a year and a half since TabExplorer was updated and for QTTabBar it's two and half years - and the last release was a beta version.

This is the original that's still being updated since a year ago: http://qttabbar.wikidot.com/
There is also an open-source version that was supposed to continue it after the long hiatus, but seems to have died instead: http://qttabbar.sourceforge.net/

Both works fine in Windows 7, and I suspect Windows 8+ as well.

I'm surprised as well, (although I'm an XPlorer2 user) TC is well respected.
I'm much more surprised that almost 50% are using Windows Explorer?

I've been using Double Commander. It's open source and claims to have been "inspired" by Total Commander. I don't know how it compares as I never used TC, but I do like DC, it does what I want. http://doublecmd.sourceforge.net/
