Oh I see. You should try getting some more space as a safe backup image to restore from goes a long way. In the mean time you could you Optical drives like DVDs. Great. Hopefully the shut down time will get better. Two to three minutes is way long. It should shut down faster than your boot time like mine. Don't forget to get back here to post the result.
Took me like 6 hours to finish formatting the PC. The reason? I screwed up the OS twice when trying to restore images just to see how it worked. What a PITA. Anyways, everything is working now and it feels and smells like a brand new PC. Didnt dare to try BD Total Security this time.
That's great. Now take a full image with either Macrium Reflect or Drive Snapshot on DVDs or on local drives if you can find some space. Seems like you've learned your lesson. LOL. By the way, what are your boot time and shut down time?
Already did an image. I'd say my boot time is pretty average since i no longer have my Velociraptor HDD. (Computer shop screwed it up, everytime i think of it makes me go ) With my current HDD the boot time is at least twice as long as with my Velociraptor. I'd guess its due to the slower access time and this archaic HDD borrowed from a friend. (320GB Samsung HDD from 2008 )
Most boot times I get is 12 to 14 seconds and the 30 second one was from a windows update so that doesn't count. LOL TH
From the time I power on until all my startup items are loaded was exactly 2 min, but this varies and it's usually less than 2 min.
I think I need to order an SSD for just the OS to be installed on. I can do 12-19 seconds on most machines, non SSD, but getting it to under 5 seconds would be magical!
Around 23 seconds according to the boot time helper in 360 TS...Its not accurate since it even counts the time taken for 360 to load up so possibly under 20 seconds or even less I guess.
I removed all the PW's/keys/secure login to test the theory, and it takes 6-8 seconds. 5 of those seconds is waiting for the Dell BIOS/boot options (F2 / F12) screen to pass. Otherwise it'd be almost instantaneous.
Got a new Velociraptor HDD a few months ago. Computer boots pretty fast but it does takes its time to load up all start up programs. (Probably like 30 secs after the interface loads up)
Unless the user is constantly rebooting for some reason, I don't see why boot time should even be a consideration. On mine, the BIOS has a fast boot option which I believe bypasses some of the checking it does. With fast boot enabled and my batch files disabled, my boot time drops to around 15 seconds. In the end, speeding everything up as much as possible could gain me a minute and a half per week. Why bother?
