    Hi

I've heard that WinPatrol is not adequately keeping up with many malware that uses rootkit techniques and stuff like that, is that true?

    Thanks

I am not qualified to judge Winpatrol's efficacy in this regard, however, this is what they say:

Scotty can now be set to monitor Hidden files in critical system areas. A list of Hidden Files is available to help you clean up your machine. Almost all new infiltrations and/or root kits will attempt hiding their files but Scotty can detect them in real-time before any serious danger can be done.
While many hidden files are normal system files, the introduction of new hidden files should be questioned. Now it can be. The ability to delete hidden files will allow proper system cleanup. Right-click on the hidden file to view or delete.

    Also:
In the cases we've seen so far, WinPatrol will pick up a rootkit before it can be deployed on someones system. Once it's installed its near impossible to fix.

    Hi,

If it means something when I was looking for a firewall Outpost Pro was offered at a discount price if someone could testify that he/she had a registered version of Winpatrol Plus. An absolute must have to proactively protect your system and is very light on resources. Its developer really knows the soul of Windows and it does what it says without bells and whistles.

Well, I never thought of Windows as having a soul, but I very much agree about the value of Winpatrol :D

WinPatrol Plus should alert immediately upon:
Any change made to your Startup programs.
    Any changes to installed services.
Although not as comprehensive as I would like, Bill P. has provided a help file here (all of which I've printed out and perused) which is a good read:

    Enjoy.
Do check out the "WinPatrol Talk" forum over at CastleCops should you have issues that cannot be answered here.
