3575. It's on the homepage when you click on the "Version of virus signature database" link in the GUI.

Rarely is a bit of a stretch I think as I often see an update on the weekend. Granted not every weekend though.

Nothing special to require an immediate update , I guess . Just only one exe I found and submitted to them but it can wait because it is a peace of crap , anyway . :D

it just puzzles me why we get so many in the week, between 9 and 5? if they're not important why bother?

Between 9 am and 5 pm what time ??

During the week we get updates for all kind of stuff , note that even though it might be malware , some of the things are real real crap (incl. keygens , such stuff) . Marcos have mentioned it more than once that ESET Labs do work during the weekends but the fact they haven't added definitions doesn't mean that they "relax" during that time.

    It's an interesting thread.

I have often wondered why the weekend updates stop or are at least very rare. I know they have happened in the past. This confirms that ESET does keep working but I suspect with less staff and only update in a "critical" case!

But this user is led to wonder if the creators of malware also take it easier during the weekend? It would make sense for them to "attack" while we have our guard down a bit.

Has anybody done any work on comparing signature updates of eset with say Norton or Avira etc? Do these firms ease back?

I'm not complaining just wondering and worrying.:doubt:

On the Net you can find some comparatives about update frequency but does it matter ? No . For a simple reason which is called proactive protection . Norton , ESET and AVIRA all provide proactive protections and it wouldn't matter for anybody if their product used pure signatures or advanced heuristics to recongnise a threat . It recongnised it , that is what is important . If ESET find it appropriate that there are no wide-spread threats and that their heuristics can catch the most important , it is OK . For everything else we (are supposed to) have heads on our shoulders.

No , but they update (their proactive protection) because nobody does proactive protection better than ESET :thumb:

I admit feeling a bit worried, last signature update 31-Oct. It's now 3-Nov. :doubt:

Doubt that Virus writers and such take it easy on weekends. They might. Not sure.

    Hi:

Well, last time I looked in mirror head was still connected:D

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out!

At the time I subscribed to Nod32 I had 2 reasons:

    1) Good heuristics
    2) Rapid Updates of signatures, so for me frequency of updates DOES matter.

Sort of the the best of both worlds. To do the selection of an AV I rely heavily on AV comparatives and not just one set of reports and my own list of selection factors.

It didn't occur to me that ESET would "hide" behind their heuristics record to ease back on weekend updates. But I'm glad this point came out.

Again I'm not complaining just observing. Maximizing security for customers should trump weekend schedules for staff. Otherwise the staff are in the wrong line of work for them! It is like air traffic controllers no time to ease back. But live and learn! I will add this criteria to my list of selection factors for AV's.

IMHO of course! I note that the ESET update today Nov 3 is 3577.
