I answered HIPS meaning "routine hips" (Comodo's D+) then SRP, Applocker and EMET. If there was a choice "Time Machine" in sense snapshot technology I would chose it.
I'd say my router. Yeah, that's hardware, but there's software running on it. I could probably get by with safe habits with everything else, but run without any type of router, connected to the net for a few minutes and the game is up. And given the choice of 1 thing I'd take the router as my FW.
I'd have to say the kerenl. I run GRSecurity on both my laptop and smartphone (android). IMO this is pretty much as good as it gets. I do also use normally security mesure to like MACs, and Disabling unneeded software and plugins but hardening the kerenal against exploits is number 1.
Since when are brains software in their proper definition? Anyways, my browser should be secure, not reliant on the other software, and I definitely like it the best.
Slightly offtopic, you do realize the entire cpu model is a reflection of how our brain works. We are creating a reality of understanding the inside of our brains by creating an external model. Mrk
I wish this poll was multiple choice. If it was, I would choose these as my must haves (Best software)... 1. NoVirusThanks EXE Radar Pro (Anti-Executable) 2. EMET 3. Sandboxie Anything else in my security setup is just there for back up.
AppGuard. It could be counted as an anti-exe, but I call it a policy-restriction program, and it is more than just an anti-exe.
Agree, somewhat and add to it a good imaging program that images outside of Windows, like "Clonezilla" Windows or anything running inside of it can not be trusted
Agreed. My initial thought was Sandboxie, but when I read this I realized it rang true. The ability to get everything back to working order in the event of disaster striking trumps everything else IMO. And to me that software would be Macrium Reflect Free 4.2. I used to use the Standard version but realized the real-time stuff it had running was just using up resources unnecessarily, as I never really needed it. So now I just installed the free version instead.
I agree. I was going to say that not one, but all working in conjunction with one another was the key to reliable performance and sound security....but you just summed that up quite nicely.
I voted for AV, but I also rely on router and software firewalls, my natural sense of caution, a good backup regimen, and secure browsers. AdBlock Plus, in particular, should not be underestimated for keeping malvertising at bay.
Hi The only software I can't do without, is my image backup software. It is my safety net, and the core security element in any of my machines. So backup software is the best software in my security setup.
AppGuard, by a long shot. It's more powerful than an AV without the resource drag (I don't mean RAM, but rather slowing down harddisk operations) and questionable pseudo-features. It can replace realtime AV protection, which is not the case with light-virtualization solutions. AppGuard > light-virtualization > real-time AV
