I'd say 'sandbox', but really what is most important in any system is the ability to recover under any circumstances, therefore imaging is the mother of all security.

While I use a lot of security programs, they're useless if I unintentionally let something bad on to my system, which, I've almost done a few times by being careless.

Sandboxie and/or Shadow Defender (and I certainly concur with Osaban)!

If I must choose one it would have to be Shadow Defender. Btw, as there is no Light Virtualization selection I checked 'Other' ...and I also believe in the 'Osaban theory'! ;)

I do not see the logic behind using sandboxie and shadow defender.

Seems each program defeats the primary purpose of the other when both are used.

While I could understand an implication of some redundancy in using both SBIE and SD at the same time, neither one 'defeats the primary purpose of the other'! Each one provides some useful features and benefits that the other lacks. They are both great security apps and I would be hard-pressed to choose between them.

I don't see how one can say that any one part of their security package is better or more important than any other. The only thing that really matters is how well the package works as a whole.

I think the question is clear enough; it has nothing to do with "mind" or whatever else.

In my case the answer is clear as well: Sandboxie.

Other: Software Restriction Policy. Maybe that was meant to be "Anti-executable" on the poll options.

    None.

There is no best software in my security setup, they all work to compliment one another.
Never a conflict and always with the same result where ever I may wander on the net.

I would say it is not software, but more along the lines of Mrkvonic's answer of the mind. But I would narrow that down specifically to having good habits of data backup and the ability to recover from a disaster.

All the security bells and whistles, all the knowledge about how to stop exploits or fix them is good to know, but to me what makes the most difference is that my data is safe and that I can recover without major issues.

If I had to pick one software, it would be the OS itself, or rather "features" the OS offers. As none of them are stand alone software titles but all rely on the OS, it seems appropriate. :)

Well I would have to say none.

I don't depend on software to protect me, I prefer to use my knowledge of how to avoid getting infected. This doesn't keep me protected 100% of the time, but it's much better than being dependent on security software to keep my protected.

On my Windows 8 i have to say the newest ShadowDefender/Sandboxie 4.07 combo per x64bit

On my XP Pro boxes HIPS claim top honors for proving their metal (and light footprint) .

Other --> All of them.

To those who voted "my brain/mind", oh-mai-gawd what's wrong with you people? It's buggy and no longer developed since October 2011. And it can be easily bypassed by a rookie cyber criminal. :argh:

no one item in the poll list options can be considered to be the best or essential, in reality we need a combination of ALL those and maybe some others.
