I wonder how Windows Firewall does resource wise? I would think it would be optimized to work with the OS.

Yeah... the advanced vista's firewall should be one of the best in that case...

Comodo? Are you guys serious?

The lightest free firewalls I know of are Kerio 2.15 followed by Jetico 1
    Sygate is pretty light also.

edit: ah Vista, I missed that part. I was distracted by people saying Comodo is light o_O
If you want light on Vista go with windows firewall, or possibly PCtools firewall.

The least resources would be a Hardware FW with no SW FW at all.

But if users want to know the real answer they need to compare apples to apples. A fully configured 2 way ZA or OA FW versus a one way windows xp FW comparison means zip. Sort of like comparing a Caddy to a Smart Car and asking which uses less gas per mile.

I believe it is serious... Next time you put Comodo, watch the CPU time. You will be surprised. It's one of those that use the least resources, at least on XP. Although, since it's a HIPS too, the use of multiple system hooks may cause some system drag. But they don't count as "resources".

True. But Kerio 2, i don't think is Vista compatible.

Sygate, is more CPU-consuming than Comodo actually. But it can feel lighter.

    I agree.

In my experience the lightest is Vista FW. Not far behind is the latest beta of OA free and Comodo. PCTools ran a bit heavier on my laptop but every setup is different.

I don't know those links. Very dodgy and I suspect the 2 links you gave don't have the official Rising Firewall, but hacked infected programs that trick people into thinking it's the official Rising Firewall

If Rising is really free, why aren't they offering it on their offical website?

    http://www.rising-global.com/

They only offer Rising Firewall for free when you purchase their AV program.

    And look at this link:

    http://www.rising-global.com/Published/Download/TrialVersions/2007-06-29/20070629170246.htm

Notice their Firewall is TRIAL verison, NOT FREE!

seriously, u shuld learn a little more before u start posting things like this, ill try to explain. Rising is a very strange company first of all, but they are still a safe company, not malicious. Rising DOES have a free FW, they just dont tell the public officially on their site, im guessing ther trying to make more money by making it sound like that AV + FW deal is great even though the FW is free. but they DO support their FREE FW, theyve even commented themselves that the FW IS free and will stay FREE.

    You think what you want.

I'm talking the reality about - not thoughts or feelings.

And I don't force-feed controversy altercated - when they are unneeded. Like your "Found Security Compromise in Sandboxie". I have availability to clarify - not to altercate with people that likes to listen their own voice only.

    Good luck.
