Behind a router-firewall and use Firestarter.

I may give that a shot. Does MVPS Hosts auto update? I believe I ran it or some other host file several years back which needed to be updated manually about once a month or so.

I used PC Tools firewall a while back and it would do it. I don't think it worked on all the IP's but on several the name of the url would be posted- usually if some app was trying to access the web PC Tools firewall would say something like "App A is trying to connect to example.com". I miss that, it's much easier than going to a whois IP site to find out what site the IP address belongs to. I got away from using PC Tools but may try it again when version 7 gets out of beta.

Thanks. I tried Outpost and for some reason it just didn't sit right with me. When I ran it the blocked ad spaces were not collapsed- not sure if that could be remedied in the options or not.

I like the firewall banner blocking that came with Kaspersky Internet Security. It doesn't block all the ads, just the big banner ones and that's fine with me. But Kaspersky av makes my computer run a tad bit slower and opening apps like office is real slow. Otherwise I'd just buck up and get the KIS product again. I wish Kaspersky still sold their firewall separate.

Privoxy and Proxomitron should do the job for free though they "take some getting used to".

    In edit: the banner-blocking bit.

    Hey acr1965,

Nope. Negative. Unfortunately it doesn't auto-update since it's not a program so to speak. It's a text file [can be viewed using Windows Notepad] that just modifies your Windows Hosts file form its original configuration to include a broad range of URLs [domains] known to host spyware and display BANNER ADS.

You have to check monthly to download the latest version [it's updated on monthly basis, usually by mid-month being the last update on Sept. 22].

I asked for permission to install it at my work computer and, man it's wonderful. It blocks as many Ads as Ad Muncher.

Give it a try, you will not regret it.

Are there two Comodo's? You said earlier:
I have used Comodo FW individually or incorporated in CIS for years. It has been 100% perfect and in my opinion is probably the best Firewall on the Internet.

For now i'm using OA, Comodo, and Eset Firewall. On different computers of course. I've been testing the newest stable version of Comodo for three days now. So far hardly any pop-ups. I'm shocked! Has Comodo finally got it right o_O

I use Look'n'Stop Firewall on my computers.
Very configurable and extra light software firewall.
