This one JayK? ~smyle~ Nope, the loopback problem is not fixed yet, but i do not use proxomitron or anything similar, and i am also behind a NAT Router, so my software firewall is used for protection of outgoing (plus i learn alot from reading it's packet logs whereas i do not get the same detailed logging with my router's logs).

i will say though, i do still strongly recommend anyone with a router to sill have a software firewall installed. Example...right now my almost 2-yr old Dlink router is having some difficulties..lol..i am still trying to figure it out, but while i am trying to figure out what is wrong with it (it is still blocking incomig at the moment) it could fail completely...so i am very glad i have Sygate installed and running...just in case. :)

Another possibility that as not being mentioned at all is to use an old linux box with iptables as a router.

I use sygate. I switched over from zone alarm, and I've been enjoying it ever since.

At the present time I am useing mcafee pfw 4.0. at GRC and every where I have tested it, it is full stealth. Can't be that bad :) I agree with Peaches4u mcafees visual trace to backtrack an intrusion attempt works really well.

    Hello Crockett

Perhaps you may remember a couple of posters here in Wilders about 2 months ago had a contest of the firewalls. Only two seem to have passed all the online tests. One of them was Agnitum Outpost Firewall v2.0. :D

I use... well, I'm not going to say, because if an exploit ever surfaces for my personal firewall of choice, I'd rather not be at extra risk because I bragged and blathered about it in a forum, giving rise to the small but non-zero chance that someone with a grudge will cross-reference my nick somewhere else, or have some other way to find my IP address, and have his way with my system...

Not that I'm paranoid or anything! :p

But I never cease to be amazed and amused by software chauvinism! ;)

For the past 6 months i've been using Win XP built-in firewall (lol.....pathetic I know...). Now I've just installed Outpost and it seems a great FW.

Using ZA Pro 4.0 and BlackICE for its IDS capabilities. Am anxious to see what the next version of Outpost will be like. Agnitum told me there is a long list of new features, but unfortunately easy bypassing of pop-up blocking is not one of them. They plan to add it, but it will be a while. If the next ZA adds an IDS like I've heard they will, I might use that and nothing else.

I use Sygate Personal Firewall Pro. Thus far, it has done everything I wanted, and has gotten along well with everything else.

I don't know, the reception of Kerio 4 hasnt being as warm by users of Kerio 2.15.

kerio 4x lovers should upgrade immediately to the new build v4.1.2 as it solves a DoS vulnerability in v4x [its also MUCH faster and lighter, and got one or two extra things over 4.0.x]

As of now 8Signs is my favorite firewall, but if I had to choose just one it would be LnS.

I just CAN'T get TPF to install. Offers SERIOUS control to the control freaks. Makes AV and AT kind of redundant (it has SO many access policies - prog.s need permission to access data drives, registry, network... control over startup services, dlls, memory injection...)
Now, if only the installer worked...
