I did pay for a license from KAV 5, but it turned out to blacklisted from Kaspersky which prompted me to buy NOD32: No regrets!

That is not really a very good Idea. what is some malware corrupts your MBR. Then you will just be out of luck as shadowuser won't work then.

used to have AVG free (i know, dont laugh!)
then dumped AVG and got a licence for nod32, when that almost-expired, got a licence for KIS6 (Kaspersky)... porbabily gonna stick with it... happy with the product, never called up CS thou... probabily because i dont need to with KIS! :D

i usualy follow the good old phrase "you pay monkeys, you get peanuts"... the free ones are sooo not as good as some of the ones you pay for, and for such a cheap price, its well worth buying a AV licence!

F-prot v3 on my windows xp pc with kav 6 as on-demand (I like having a light av with a powerhouse to check my downloads) and f-prot on my linux box as well.

My paid version is DrWeb -- Real-Time Monitor (RTM), right-click checks, full system scans whenever I feel paranoid

Free version is AntiVir-PE -- back-up RTM if DRW can't update (has happened only 1 time in the 3+ years I have used DRW)

Weekly full system scans -- F-Prot for DOS.

OK. But will KAV6 run in on demand mode only? As NOD32 is my RTM.

I use free on-demand MWAV (KAV engine, updated at least 1 per month) and realtime none.

Yep, I am using it for that purpose here. Just do a custom install and don't install the realtime compoments. Then there is an option that kaspersky won't start on start up. After doing a scan, just right-click the K in the systray and exit it.

    Cheers,

Avast (currently 4.7) free here. About the only extras their paid version offers (other than keeping Alwil going, of course) is the ability to pre-define specialized tasks, which I wouldn't use since I normally just do a full scan anyway.

That didn't work. I have NOD32 installed & RTM. When I loaded KAV6 & followed your instructions. KAV6 notified me that I had to uninstall NOD32 to continue. So probably if I install KAV6 1st it'd work. But I don't feel like uninstalling NOD32.
But your instructions worked with KAV5. Except I had to disable KAV5 startup using an external program (RegSeeker). The option not to startup with WINDOWS didn't work within KAV5.

KAV6 didn't detect f-prot so I had no issues. Glad to here it worked with KAV5 though.

yeh, KAV6's a little annoying like that. you have to remove nod32, install KAV6 and then install NOD32 after. if i was you, i'l get KAV6.. although signatures are the same, KAV6's much more advanced!

Yeah but I don't want to uninstall NOD32. If I don't have to. But I figure when NOD32 3.0 final comes. Then I'll do it.
