I also use Ad Muncher Premium.Right now it is the best adblocking solution on the market even with its gzip and https limitation.Support is great and you do get what you paid for. Like evenyone else who uses it, I cant wait for version 5.x.
Maybe we should make a thread about 5.x and coax jeff into sharing some screenshots!

i use all the 5-6 standard ones in HostsMan and then about 10 others i found on the internet like SpyEye tracker, Zeus Tracker, Malekal, MalwareDomains.com, MalwarePatrol (won't autodownload) plus my own small list of maybe 40-50 google, twitter type domains - once HostsMan downloads and deletes the duplicates there are only 315k entries and 9,4 MB file - very little to no impact on browsing that i notice (and i'm just using a 4-5 yr old netbook). then i use HostsServer also by Abelhadigital, which lists what domains were actually blocked by the hosts file while browsing.

there are a few other hosts file available last i heard, one group named Arielle iirc that were in the 10's of MB ea as well as a Squidblacklist.org hosts file that was about 50 MB but they all impacted browsing so i had to get rid of them. squidblacklist no longer available for free in hosts format though.

yeah those look familiar. are you using HostsMan and HostsServer?
i wish there was one program available that would let us block domains in wildcard and regex format and also easily block IPs by country and auto-download these files, delete duplicates, etc but doesnt seem to be available yet.

notice that last one you mentioned (hostsfile.mine.nu) hasn't been updated in over a year - i still include it in mine too for some reason but prob isn't too effective i would guess.

    Hi,

Just to clarify, I´m talking about way back, like 2005 or 2006. I think it messed up snapfiles.com, but it´s probably already fixed.

It did seem like a cool tool, but I didn´t really need it. Perhaps I will check it out again, just for fun. ;)

I use adblock plus. NoScript also filters some other "Ads" like facebook button and twitter button using the ABE enforcement.

Same here. Just glad I don't have 10 machines. I like Ad Muncher so much I bought a unlimited copy for my mom sense it should help her a lot even though she doesn't really care about ads. Everyone should be able to use the internet the way it was meant to be used like in 1995 to 2000! I remember when I first came on the internet with Web TV there was hardly no ads ever. Then when we got our first computer still not to bad around 1998. It does suck my dad never wanted to learn how to use a computer. Even when I told him there were sport's updates. I really miss being able to teach him but he never wanted to. It sucks that I never been able to sense he passed away in his early 40s from lung cancer. He got it from second hand smoking his mom and dad smoked around him in the house and with the window rolled up in the car. Anyway enough I just wish more people could see how important a good ad blocker is! Look at how Ad Blocker Plus has been paid by google to let their ads through. Doesn't mean I don't still like Ad Blocker Plus I do I used it for years before finding Ad Muncher. To bad Ad Muncher doesn't offer discounts to schools, colleges, and work.

The only thing I wish Ad Muncher could do is upgrade from one version to the next without user interaction at all. Though I don't that will ever happen sense I run a limited user account in Windows 7. As well as my mom. Would be nice so I wouldn't have to upgrade Ad Muncher for her. I know the ad lists do this already which is great.

Doesn't the newest version of ABP offer to block social media buttons for you?

Yes but I find it doesn't do anything for some reason. I always see the facebook button. so I still use noscript for this. And go further an just block all request from twitter, facebook, and google when I am not on their page.

ABP usually works without any issues.

I ran into an exception recently. If I change shipping addresses during the purchase process at Amazon, the process of changing addresses hangs. I have to temporarily turn off ABP to change shipping addresses.

Just had to sign up to vote.

To the people that have never tried Ad Muncher, you honestly wouldn't vote for anything else if you had. It's without a doubt the best ad blocker on the market at the moment, and is only ever improving. The ad list is updated daily (with premium).

Uninstall any ad blocker you've got installed at the moment and just give the trial a go. You won't regret it, and you'll notice a difference instantly.

The trail version didn't work for me. It blocked this site "hxxp:www.battleforces.com" from working correctly. I've had another issue with overly agressive Web Filter in Avira. However unlike Avira Admuncher doesn't have exception list.

I went there and I don't see any damage...

    Could you provide more details?

Also you can exclude any site from being filtered via the My Filters tab.

    No Filtering on URL:
    www.battleforces.com

    Voted other.

    Using Privoxy.

It lets me be in control of the blocking and filtering, easy to use, light on resources, doesn't need frequent updates, uses wildcards regular expressions, easy to add simple domain lists, and it is freeware too

    Ad Muncher makes Ghostery redundant.
