I was about to send some money to a family member for the holidays via Western Union. I filled in all the required fields until they asked me for my bank's username and password. I said to myself, no freaking way. Is this normal procedure? I've never ever recall where I would have to submit my password and username to any financial institution or services other they my own.
Never used them myself. This is what I found. https://security.stackexchange.com/...k-login-information-ridiculously-bad-practice
Agreed with you both! I used it years ago, but never via internet. In that time I went to a train station where a bank was from where I could send it. Times have been changed ... (It brings back memories of dear friends who so sadly passed away )
I know when you do it in person you have to give them cash or a debit card. You can't send credit. I certainly would not give my bank info to anyone that asked for it. Not even the bank unless I was using it to log on.
why not? don't you use an authenticator app or something? i don't think they can perform any (trans)actions w/o authentication.
I was not. Last time I used WU by phone I entered my digits by automated system the agent wasn't involved.
Perhaps, it does sound a bit surrealistic. Yet I wouldn't put it past some vendors who claim to be WU outlets.
