So it's still not clear if any customer data of the My Cloud service was stolen? That would be quite painful for WD and a good example of that the cloud isn't always that safe as pressumed.
I have just read on a Twitter acct. I follow that ALPHV is the group behind the hack. There is a message from them describing their "disappointment" with Western Digital's apparent radio silence about the hack, esp since they shared some info already in the TechCrunch article stapp posted earlier. The group does say with mock "regret" they'll publish some evidence about WD's "corruption" but only if they don't pay. If they pay, we don't hear about anything. So they say. No direct links as the message has some really vulgar language. I'm linking to the source's homepage instead. ~ Removed URL as per TOS ~ Edited to remove link.
You put your data on a cloud that is online 24/7/365, then you should know that your data being breached is only a matter of time. Why so surprised?
Absolutely. It's exactly why i chose years ago to storage data LOCALLY. Actually i learned it from MS itself, called INTRANET- Base your data close to where only YOU can access it.
