Vote for the best firewall

i had been using Zonealarm for a long time and i think the 6th version is the best buy.
But for about a month or so i have been trying out mcafee personal firewall it too does a good job but has no special funcitions unlike Zonealarm

 

I think this is really a wrong question.

How can you compare firewalls which are only inbound portbased-only's
with a complete Windows Security Suite as Tiny Personal Firewall 200 Pro is?

Those are totally different things, it is just like you compare
a computer with a car .

And what about Hardware firewalls etc?

so i prefer firewalls that are not in your PC
(Cisco Pix,Sonicwall,Snapgear etc. etc)

But if you MUST use a SW one on your PC: use Tiny Personal Firewall 2005 Pro, it is expensive, but it is by far the best.

If you want a cheap firewall and that is your most important selection-item: use the one that is in XP sp2

If you want a good light-weight use look'n'stop.

If you want simple to use middelclass inbound/outbound firewall use Kerio or Outpost

The question should be:
What is the best firewall if you look only at performance?
or What is in YOUR situation the best firewall?
Or which firewall gives you the best protection for your system (regardless the price)?

etc. etc.

I just cannot find the information on their website. I know the price i.e. $49 & $99 but no mention of annual fees?

So how do they charge?

I think Tiny is the only one that support multiple users at the moment.

I still don't know why other Firewalls do not support multiple users? I read somewhere that new Microsoft Vista will have user to log in as default limited user? Am I right?

That is no change to XP Sp2, that already has the same feature,
although it doesn't really improve the overall system security.

Example 1: every user can infect the system with a virus or Trojan
and disable the whole system that way.

Example 2: If a user has access to the pc, i mean if he can change CDROM/DVD media etc. he can change the password for every user
within 20 seconds.

OutPost Pro for me too.
FilseClab ran nicely on my system during the problems I experienced with OutPost when I updated.
Serves me right from not reading the upgrade recommendations.
Liked ZoneAlarm Pro too for two days, but that's a no go here.

 

ZoneAlarm Pro 6.0 is the only way to go! Outpost seemed more complicated than I'd like and Kerio conflicted with some software. I started with ZA Free but within the half hour change to Pro. I also think the spyware detector is better than reviewed. It has picked up several items that both Ad-aware and Spybot missed, not to mention Bazooka!

I've been using Outpost pro for the last 4 months and thought it was okay, even though it would occasionally disrupt my internet surfing by blocking
some websites without any logical reason.

I'm trialling Look'n'Stop and I must say it feels terrific on my system:Three times as faster than Outpost, no hassles surfing the net and according to the Wilders community lore one the best in terms of malware filtering. So my choice for what is worth is now Look'n'Stop.

 

Used the free version of Kerio for a long time (v2.15) but
changed to Outpost when I upgraded to Win2k last year

I'm very happy with Outpost

Outpost 3 maybe is one of the best coz it gives lots of infos not found on other firewalls... so detailed that i thought you won't miss anything on pc connections and surfing habits. But it slowed down my net speed so much.

ZoneAlarm is also very good as it's simplicity is brilliant.. and i think this is one of the smartest among its class. But this one also slowed my net speed.

As of now I am using Filseclab Pro 3 firewall... its light and easy to use, default setting stealth me completely in the web and i think this was also good...this was the only one i think that didn't affect my net speed. Maybe this is not as secured and matured like the 2 above, but those things will be handled and take cared by my other protection softwares.

 

ZA 2.6 and 4.5.594.000 Pro are excellent products. They are very easy to setup the first time. 4.5 Pro is also very powerful in the hands of an experienced user. Memory load is between 4 to 7MB.

 

I have used Zone Alarm Free, for almost 2 years and hasn't let me down. Should I change for some reason, I would go to Outpost.

 

I am having good luck with GhostWall.

Very lightweight, easy to use, and so far seems to be dependable.

Outpost Pro. Had ZA Pro but it got screwed up on my machine when it went to ver. 6. Migrated to Outpost on a half off deal and have been happy since.

 

ZoneAlarm has always been adequate for my home use.

For business use, I have had good luck with 8Signs. Can't claim its the best, only that it is affordable.

The only problem encountered with it was that on some wimpier servers (NT4 P133s, yes they still exist) it would crap out when the server was being beaten up. No problems on boxes with more horsepower.

 

CHX-I or Kerio 2.1.5. I love them both for the quickness and speed.

Nothing is perfect, they work very well...
