Thank you @1chaoticadult for your answer. I didn’t formulate my question correctly. what I wanted to know is, can I buy it now and install it in two months….:thumbd:

I'm sure you could. Your license shouldn't be invalidated just because you delay installing the software. Plus if you had a problem in 2 months, I'm sure Dan would help you if you had issues then.

    Thanks.

VS is only one of multiple layers of defense on those of my PCs that have the program installed. But here's a new question: other than for the Whitelist Cloud and possible bug fixes and new features, is the nature of VS such that it needs regular updates/upgrades?

I wonder if it's the same issue I had when installing VS on my Windows 11 drive. The registration would go thru until the machine was re/started. Then, you had to do the process all over again. I fixed it by simply re-installing VS, no problems since. I was having an issue with my Ethernet adapter so that may have played a role.

Updated to v.7.09 anyway. Since this is an Insiders beta build, despite @Gandalf_The_Grey's sage advice, I wanted to see if VS would keep quiet during the update process to v.22616.100. Nope, blocked an unsigned process so I whitelisted it, exited VS immed. and it went thru. Won't be trying that again.

Otherwise, it's nice with no other false positives so far. The UI is easy to navigate. Very light on here. :)

    @Triple Helix

I was one of those users that reported the issue. ;)

Just installed the VS 7.09 version, but not before exiting VS.

VS is operating normally, and didn't need to reboot, i.e. reboot was not requested to complete the update.

I just installed VS 7.09, and everything went perfectly. No restart required. No problems.

ooo, glad I was around to install this before removing my Windows 11 drive. Will look for a changelog when it's posted, then.

Asked Dan about the changes in VS 7.10:

Clean install of VS 7.10 x 2 machines. WLC tray icon did not show until I disabled it in WLC settings then re-enabled it.

I've emailed Dan and he has confirmed.

Yep, had the same problem, he told me it should be an easy fix.
In the meantime, a reboot also solves it.

As I understand it, WLC is based solely on reputation -- am I correct?

Yes, from the VS user manual:

    QUESTIONS:
1-In "Smart" mode, VS is "ON" & monitoring ONLY when an internet-facing app is active. Correct?

2-If #1 is "Yes," would VS in "Smart" mode block user from loading & executing a NON-whitelisted executable when computer is in OFFLINE status?

3-If #2 is "Yes," skip to #4. However, if #2 is "No," would VS in "Always ON" mode block user from loading & executing a NON-whitelisted executable when computer is in OFFLINE status?

4- If #2 is "Yes" OR if #3 is "No," then WHY have an "Always On" mode?

5- Fact: when VS pops an alert that it has blocked a NON-whitelisted executable, it gives user the option to override the block. ScreenHunter_01 May. 14 12.10.gif
Question: Will VS prevent a careless user or "bad guy" from wrongly overriding the block?

@bellgamin I sent an email (support at voodooshield.com) to Dan with your questions and here are his answers (in bold):

Thanks for posting this, Gandalf_The_Grey: it's helpful to know, esp. when you haven't run VS in a while (like years). I'll just leave it at the Auto Pilot state, seems to be hassle-free. Installed 7.10 over the top after exiting.

Is the general consensus to update every time there's a new version published or do some only update when there's a relevant issue that's addressed? Like for Sandboxie, I just automagically update to the latest no matter what. But eg: NVIDIA, lately, I've been one or two versions behind for off-topic reasons.

    You're welcome :thumb:
I personally update every time there is an updated version to see what's new and check for bugs.
IMO a "normal" user should wait for the auto update or update when there is, like you said, a relevant issue addressed.

After updating VS to version 7.10, the following popup appeared before the VS icon would show up in the notification area:

    VoodooShield firewall.png

Thing is, I'm using the Bit Defender firewall. Do I need to disable that one (enabling the Windows Firewall) in order to get WLC working?

    Thanks.
