Honestly, do you guys have any idea how much time and money it takes to complete a project like this? We would like to be able to keep it free, but someone has to give us an idea how we can generate revenue to pay the bills and stay in business. Please let us know.

People do not understand that in todays world, you need a income as well. They think they are the only ones who need food, car payments, house payments, etc. Living in this world today,is not about being FREE.

Thank you Boost! There are free alternatives, if you want to be bothered by prompts and pop ups. We think users will appreciate VoodooShield's user interface / user experience, simplicity, efficiency, reliability and extremely small footprint. If we can figure out a way to keep it free, that is even better!

No, I am just being open and honest. This is not a software where I will spend money to have it. I am not saying anyone should make it a free product or not, just that it is not something that I would pay for.

I guess more information would have to be forthcoming before i could make a decision. My av would not function after the year unless I paid a subscription ,and I accept that because I know it is continually being updated with signatures whereas software like this ,I would be reluctant to subscribe to in an AV fashion.I would consider paying for major upgrades to it ,but if the software became crippled for not upgrading or subscribing ,then I would be reluctant to buy it in the first place.I think you mentioned $30 dollars a year earlier? ,and although its not that much over the space of a year ,I'm not sure in reality how many people would actually go for that ,when there's so much competition (free and paid) ,unless your product was truly different or better than other options.Personally Id buy a lifetime licence at $80 dollars if the software was good ,but I'm not sure I would pay $30 dollars a year for this type of software but that's just me.

I'm waiting for the changes in the next version, but I could see this being the only security software I buy. I'm not going to try to set the price for them, I'm not that bold. The more you use it the more you see it really isn't like anything else. When it gets to the point we can build our own custom whitelist it will be one of a kind. I am running Comodo Internet Security with everything enabled and VoodooShield and it is very light. When this comes out of beta I plan on changing the anti virus to on demand. Maybe simple is best after all. Rocky

    VoodooShield,
Merely a suggestion for your pricing model perhaps a set price for the original purchase and a discounted price for renewal.

Thank you Sevens, LoneWolf and djohn. LoneWolf, I like that idea, I will run it past the other people and see what they say. We were thinking $24.99 per year for one computer, and $49.99 for 3 computers.

While it is true that we do not have to update the blacklist with 15,000+ new viruses every day, we should not be penalized because we took a different approach. There will always be new methods for viruses to attack a computer, and we will have to keep up with those.

Here is the new menu for the new version. Please let us know what you think. It does not look like we will have the whitelist editor for this version, but should within a week or two. We apologize this version is taking so long, we have been doing serious work on the engine. Once that is finished, everything else will be easy.

Like the new menu. Is "Smart" protection when Firefox, Outlook, etc. on? I am assuming that's what it is.

Initial price is fair, maybe a discount for renewals (after a year).

I agree a small fee per year with a smaller renewal fee and only if you are going to continue development and great support but if it stops we are not as forgiving because so many others just get it started then disappear and we are left with holding the bag of worthless goods! Also a charge of a home site license for $29.95 and renewal of $19.95 seems more reasonable then what your suggesting!

Be ready for the lions... :D ... but, you could have two versions: one version, for non-registered users, bundling a toolbar or displaying ads; another version, for registered users, that would get rid of the ads.

But, I can assure most who come at Wilders would dislike it. But, you folks do need money to survive. So, unless these people are willing to pay your bills, if they really want a free version, then they should accept the toolbar bundle or ads.

Just as long it's not the ASK Toolbar fine but I would be a paid user but would not use it if it had any connection with ASK!

Thank you for everyone's patients and ideas. Here is the latest version. It is not on the download page, so here is a direct link.

    www.voodooshield.com/Download/Versions/Install VoodooShield beta 0.93.exe

Please let us know if you have any problems. The next version will have a lot more features such as password protection and a whitelist editor. That should be available in a week or so.

    Thank you!!!

Downloaded 0.93 Beta and installed over existing version with no problems. Was prompted to re-register which I did. Like the new option (Always ON).

When you left click tray icon it changes the color (from blue to red) but does not change the option running at the time. I think this is a bug. It eventually changes back to correct color for "Always ON" (blue), Same is true if you have the show option enabled and you click on the desktop icon.

Will report back after I work with it for awhile.

TH, thank you for your input on the pricing, that is definitely in the range we are looking at. And we understand that the economy is not great right now, so we are going to be reasonable either way. We would like VS to be installed on and protecting as many computers as possible and worry about money later. But I do think 19.99 is more than reasonable.

Thank you G1111. Left clicking on the Shield or the Tray Icon will not change the mode!!! Left clicking just toggles between On and Train Me. Basically, the left click will allow the user to quickly train a new program. The user can manually reactivate by left clicking again, or it will auto reactivate (determined in the settings screeen).

    The three modes are:

Train Me: VS will always be in Train Me mode
Smart: VS will toggle between On and Train Me, depending on if you are at risk or not
Always On: VS will NOT toggle between On and Train me, however, the user can still left click quickly enter Train Me mode.

I know it is hard to explain, but once you see how it works, we think you will like it!

    @ VoodooShield

Hi, it might be a silly question :D but there "appears" to be no OFF option mentioned, that i've read about anyway ? I have to say i havn't installed it yet :( due to other commitments, just wondering as i would want that option.

    TIA
