Hey Iangh... Smart Mode should toggle with USB drives. If you have any problems with it, please let me know.

Yeah, I need to tweak the Training mode, especially the notifications. I think most people hardly ever use training mode anymore... I would just put it on AutoPilot... then if you want to lock it down with Always ON in a few days, go for it ;). Thank you!

Cool, thank you for letting me know! I was not sure when that was coming, so that is great to know. Do you know if Extended Validation Certificates will be required as well? Or is this what this whole thing is about?

Also, if you have any resources on the topic (like what we need to do), please let me know! I have not even started to research this yet... I had no idea it was coming up this quick ;). Thanks again!

Once again, I skipped a lot of the freeze issue posts, but if I missed anything, please let me know!

Yes, I shut off AI as you requested after the first freeze. The freeze occurred differently because I hadn't responded to a prompt prior to the freeze. I noticed that VS was blocking a program update that I had previously allowed using a wildcard in the command line. I was looking at the command line list to verify when the freeze happened, I hadn't actually made any changes yet.

You're welcome, Dan. I believe that that is what this whole thing is about, but digitally signing binaries is not something that I am well versed in. I do have some great links to share that might help definitively answer that question.

    Link: http://social.technet.microsoft.com...thenticode-code-signing-and-timestamping.aspx
    Link: https://www.osr.com/blog/2015/03/18/microsoft-signatures-required-km-drivers-windows-10/
    Link: https://www.osr.com/blog/2015/07/24/questions-answers-windows-10-driver-signing/

One thing that I do know is that Florian (Bouncer dev) is having difficulties getting his drivers signed with both sha1 and sha256. He is signing his installers/executables with sha1/sha256 combination successfully, but apparently drivers is more difficult. It apparently has to go through Microsoft for approval and signed by Microsoft. All of the drivers in C:\Windows\System32\drivers specifically are all sha256 signed only (sha1 is deprecated and not accepted) and signed by Microsoft Windows.

I noticed that Adguard for Windows (their driver adgnetworkwfpdrv.sys) has their driver signed sha256 by Adguard and sha256 by Microsoft Windows. So their Adguard team out of Russia seems to be ahead of game on this sha1 deprecation thing, at least as far as Windows 10 Anniversary Update is concerned. I would highly recommend to talk to @avatar (Adguard dev) either privately or maybe over in the Adguard thread to find out what they needed to do to achieve the sha256 digital signature from Microsoft Windows. It's possible that it could take some time for approval and such. They are going to be pushing this major update to Windows 10 users in about a month (Aug. 2).

I was thinking of updating my Win 8.1, and possibly my 7 machine, to 10 before July 29, but even though it is to improve security, it would be annoying if any of my security softs in my sig stopped working on Aug. 2.

So now I am not sure. Some research required I guess.

Yeah, it might be best to hold off either way... as WildByDesign pointed out, this might really turn into a mess.

On the upgrade to win 10 what I did was image the system as win 7, then took it thru the win 10 ugrade process. Once done I imaged that, and then restored the win 7 system. Now i can go back and forth with an image restore

Will probably do the same, but would want to settle on one or the other sooner rather than later, with all the softs I keep updated.

Me too, I am staying with Windows 8.1 for my main rig (which is 5.5 years old now), but it is unclear to me when the Extended Validation digital certificates will affect 8.1. I will research it over the weekend and see.

If you upgrade to Win10, then that machine will activate Win10 from then on. If you don't do it before the end of July and decide at a later time you will have to pay. If you create an image of your machine/s before the upgrade you can restore the images and keep using those older Operating Systems knowing if you ever decide to try Win10 it will be a free upgrade.

... Just my thoughts for what they are worth.

Guess I will need to plan a day to actually do this. I am usually an early adopter, but am not particularly motivated wrt to WX. :doubt:

Now back to VS ... :)

    It's a joke ;). Please see this thread: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/the-vast-barren-wasteland-of-desktop-security.386840/page-3

I only use VS and scan from time to time with Zemana. Defender slows my computer down way too much and you all know what I think about UAC ;).

I need to change it back, but in case you guys missed it, here is what it was:

Windows Defender | Smart Screen | UAC (Max)

    Thank you!

Hey guys, I need to take a break from wilders for probably at least a week (it could be sooner, could be later)... when I return I will fill you in on the details (don't worry, everything is great, I promise.)

This will also give me time to try to figure out the last remaining bug... the infamous freeze bug... so if you guys have anymore logs or clues about it, please email me, please do not pm me because I probably will not read it.

Thanks again for all of your help, and I hope to SEE you guys soon ;).
