Hi Kent, what program are you using to determine CPU Utilization? If you look in the Windows Task Manager, that is the most accurate one. There was quite a bit of discussion about this awhile back, we can look up the details. Please let me know what software you are using to determine CPU Utilization. Thank you!

    Hello Dan,

I use both Windows Task Manager and Process Hacker. With Windows Task Manager, my PC idles about 3%. If I start VS the CPU jumps to 25% to 30% even though it is only showing about 6% for VS. The CPU usage increase is not reflected in any other processes. Once I exit VS, CPU usage drops from the 25% to 30% back down to 3%. Even though the full CPU usage is not reflected in VS processes, since it falls to normal when exiting VS, it is obviously connected. Windows Task Manager is notorious for not including an accurate usage of all DLL's and files that a particular process invokes. The before and after system CPU usage shown by Windows Task Manager reflects the same usage reported by Process Hacker. Bottom line with either task manager is system idles at 3% usage and with the only change being to start VS, it jumps to around 25%. Total CPU usage is the same with either Windows Task Manager or Process Manager in the VS not running and the VS running scenarios with an increase of around 20% to 25%.

    Description VoodooShield Setup
Comments This installation was built with Inno Setup.
Signature verification Certificate out of its validity period

My browser is blocking the download (Internet Explorer, it says " This program is not commonly downloaded and could harm your computer") , and after forcing download, Windows Smartscreen is blocking it too, it may be because of the expired signature verification, I think.

After I ignored that problem I came to 1 conclusion, I love this software :) , it's brilliant.

I see... Yes, that is very odd, it must be a hardware issue since no one else has reported the CPU above 1% in the windows task manager. And from what I remember, you are not running any other unique software that might be causing this, right?

    Hello Dan,

My system is five to six years old. There have been a couple of other security software that I have had issues with also. In those other cases, it has been determined to be my NVIDIA nForce serial ATA controller driver (nvstor64.sys version 11.1.0.29 dated 06/22/2009) that has caused the issues. It is the most recent version and as you can see by the date, it has been quite a while since NVIDIA has released an update for it. Since I am now on a different OS and all of my running software now is not the same as what I was running on my previous OS, I am fairly sure that this hardware driver is more than likely the cause. VS is slowing down my system a lot along with the high CPU usage, so I had to remove VS. Since you have no other issues like mine (and also knowing from previous experience that the issue will be next to impossible to fix), do not worry about trying to fix it. It will not be worth your time and it is probably not fixable. This particular storage driver has a history of being very buggy and not much can be done about it. And in the end it may not even be that. Thanks for your help and feedback.

Will this giveaway license expire if I don't activate the program? Just wondering about how long one can store this 1 year license before settling with VoodooShield.

Hey, stupid question but what kind of program is VoodooShield? Their website makes it sound like an antivirus, but posts here make it seem more like an anti-executable that uses a whitelist. And also, very generous about the 1-year license!

Sounds good... I will tell you what... when MS, Google, or someone else buys us, we will buy you a brand new computer, with VS preinstalled ;).

Out of curiosity, what CPU do you have? Was it like a q6600 or something? I remember it was pretty fast for its time.

    Thank you!

VS is kind of like an AE, but it also has NON realtime VirusTotal support, and it is a little more than that. The whole idea of VS is that when you are not at risk of getting a virus (playing solitaire), your computer should be unlocked. But when you go to the internet or email, VS locks your computer... and it is a tighter lock than the traditional blacklist antivirus "filter". Although, we do recommend having a good traditional blacklist realtime scanner just in case. That is VS in a nutshell ;). Thank you!

    Hello Dan,

    Here are my specs:
    Computer Brand Name: HP-Pavilion FQ425AA-ABA a6655f
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8 Professional with Media Center (x64) Build 9200
Processor: AMD Phenom 9150e Quad Core (1800.0 MHz)
Motherboard: PEGATRON CORPORATION NARRA3 (nVidia nForce 6100-430)
    Memory: 8 GBytes
I am disabled and on a fixed income so I will have this system until it quits on me. Of course when that time comes, its replacement will depend on the funds available at the time...

Thank you again for all your help!!!

Yeah, if VS is OFF, it is not protecting... a lot of people like to have it always on, especially since now it trains to fast. A year ago VS did not train that well, it took us a long time to get it to that point.

We have thought about adding flash drive support, but what about the people who have flash drives plugged in all the time? It gets a little tricky ;). Thank you!

Anything that mitigates viruses, trojans, worms, botnets, rootkits, spyware, rogues, etc.. is technically considered an antivirus. You have what I like to refer to as traditional antivirus that use signature, and heuristics to detect threats. Then you have AE's, BB, HIPS, Sandboxing, Policy based applications, etc.. All these different applications just mitigate threats in their own ways.

To answer your question though VoodooShield operates more like an AE, and operates nothing like a traditional AV. VoodooShield does not use signatures, or heuristics to detect threats. It rather white list the applications you have on your computer, and does not allow any executable to execute that are not on the whitelist except for those in the system space. VoodooShield excludes those areas by default, but the user can choose not to exclude those areas. Windows protects the system space automatically by requiring administrative privileges to execute in the system space. I prefer to include the system space because I would have to run every single application I have that is installed in the system space while VS is in training mode in order for VoodooShield to whitelist them. Any applications you have installed in the userspace will be blocked unless you run those applications while VoodooShield is in training mode, or manually exclude those areas using VS's browse function. If VS does block something it will prompt you to allow or deny the action. Malware normally attempts to use the userspace to execute to escalate privileges from there to infect the system space so if you stop it from entering the userspace then I believe in most instances it cannot infect the system space. I am by far no expert in this area, but it would make for a very interesting / learning experience just to start a thread on userspace vs systemspace alone. I'm hoping Daniel from VS will jump in here soon since he knows all the fine mechanics of how VS works far better than I do.

I hope I didn't confuse you more than before you asked the question. VoodooShield is so easy to use because all you have to do is run VS in training mode for a while. It will learn your system, and whitelist your applications for you. I normally run VS in training mode for about an hour, and run any application I have installed in the userspace so they will be whitelisted. I also reboot 3 times while VS is in training mode, but this is more or a less a ritual for me to make me feel VS has learned my system well. Don't do anything risky while in training mode like surf the net, check email. VoodooShield learns, and allows all actions while in training mode so if you execute malicious code, or you encounter a drive-by download from visiting an infected webpage while in training mode VS will allow the infection to occur, and will whitelist it. It pretty much does everything for you. It's one of the most simply, user friendly applications I have ever used. I have not found anything that offer's better protection than VS. I know of a few applications that offers comparably the same protection, but are more complicated to use. They just require more knowledge on the user's part. I think after you try VS you will not want to go without it after seeing how strong it's protection is, and how easy it is to use.

Am I correct in my understanding of how VS operates? If the program's folder is not excluded then an application installed in the programs folder would be blocked if it had not been ran while VS was in training mode? It would still prompt you of course to allow or deny the action. I hope I did not give any misinformation in my post above. I just haven't questioned my own understanding of how VS operates before.
