Cool, thank you for letting me know. On Windows 10 and sometimes 8, VS will freeze after like 2 days or so... if this happens, please let us know!

You must have some old .dat files in C:\programdata\voodooshield. You might want to exit out of VS and delete all of the .dat files in this folder. If for some reason that does not fix it, please let me know, thank you!

I didn't explain myself properly, I must have been too tired. VS quarantined the updater, but failed to restore it. VS deleted it from quarantine even though the restore failed. So basically, the updater is gone now.

Ok, deleted the .dat files and rebuilt the whitelist again with no problems. Thanks Dan!

I actually knew what you were saying (which is not always the case since we are communicating with just text), but I do not see how that is even possible, for many reasons. If you look in the "C:\ProgramData\VoodooShield\Quarantine" directory, is there a file with the filename you are looking for, with the .voo extension? Thank you!

Very cool... thank you for letting me know. This actually helps a lot because I was trying to decide whether to risk it and just upgrade the .dat files for our current users, or just go with new ones. We have to go with new ones, and this just confirms it ;). It will be a little bit of a pain for people, but so much has changed since 2.0, we really need to do it right.

The quarantine folder is empty. However, VS lists one file as being in the quarantine.

    Win 7 64bit using 3.17

Deleted .dat files (just to see what happened :)) that I was allowed to delete.. not dev one, even if I exited I couldn't delete that

Had to re register key, rebuilt whitelist and all seems fine so far.

Hmmm, is it the missing file? If not, it is probably an old .dat file. Which file is listed as quarantined?

Hehehe ;). Yeah, you know how a good reboot works wonders? Deleting the .dat files for VS is essentially the same thing ;). The only downside is that you have to register again and set your settings the way you want them, and allow stuff that was previously whitelisted.

We are very close to the point where we will never have to worry about this again ;). Thank you!

Oh, sorry, I misunderstood... yeah, there is one file that will not delete unless you stop the VoodooShieldService. Windows will not let you delete DeveloperServiceLog.log if the VoodooShield service is running, but this is perfectly fine because not much is written to this anyway. So just delete the other files and you are good to go ;).

No, not the the missing file. Vs deleted that one, and I would need to reinstall WPS Office to get that back.

The file listed in quarantine is an installer. I just checked and the installer is still in my Downloads folder, so maybe VS tried to quarantine it and failed.

Edit: I launched the installer and selected to quarantine it. This resulted in the file being deleted, but not quarantined. The actual quarantine folder is still empty, but the installer is now listed twice if I go into the quantine in VS.

I see what you are saying, but VS will not delete the file unless you go into Settings / Quarantine, then right click and choose delete... so I am confused ;). I am certain there is a simple explanation, I just do not know what it is ;).

Essentially, they only time that VS deletes a file is when the user is in Settings / Quarantine, and right clicks on the file and chooses delete. It is not uncommon for updates to delete themselves. I really, really do not think there is an issue with VS in this case, but if there is, we certainly need to fix it. Please let me know, thank you :)!

There is an issue, because when I quarantined the file, it never was actually quarantined - it was just deleted. While VS shows that the file is in the quarantine, there is literally nothing in the quarantine folder.

But I promise you, there is not a chance that VS deleted the file before quarantine it. Let's reproduce the issue, and it will all make sense. Please let me know how to reproduce this and we will be good to go!

But, that is exactly what happened. The file was in my Downloads folder. When I launched it, I received a prompt from VS, and chose to quarantine it. Now, the file is no longer in my Downloads folder, and also as I have posted, there are no files in the quarantine folder, although VS shows it as being quarantined.

Clearly for some reason, VS has failed to quarantine the file. There is quite simply no other possibility, as the file was on my computer until I pressed quarantine, and my antivirus did not quarantine it.

I don't know how this can reproduced, as it is an issue with my computer which seemingly isn't happening for others.
