    Hello,

    Time for some expensive fun!

I've written an installation tutorial and extensive, excited review of VMware Workstation 7, on openSUSE 11.2 64-bit Linux, with features like Unity, 3D effects in guest machines, unlimited snapshots, movie recording, USB 2.0 support inside guests (Bluetooth, Web camera), and much more. Consider an early New Year present. Read the article.

    Hi Sir,

Great Review. But its quite problematic for non Linux users, like me.
I have never used Linux but i know that its command starts from Sudo to install anything on your system with admin rights..Please correct me if i am wrong. BTW what about VMWare Server? Is it good ? What will you recommend VM Player or VMWare Server if somebody can't buy VMWare Workstation for linux....

    Hello,

After the installation, you can create a shortcut on your desktop for /usr/bin/vmware and that's all. No sudo required. Just run and enjoy.

I recommend Server indeed - it's great. And i use it on several machines still. You may have some trouble with installation here and there, especially on Ubuntu, but it should work great on RedHat-based and SUSE distros.

I'm not clear, Mrk. Did you already have a snapshot/image of Windows 7 on hand or did you actually do an install from within VMWare to a usb drive? Other than that question Workstation sounds very impressive.

    Can you explain this comment...

"You may have some trouble with installation here and there, especially on Ubuntu, but it should work great on RedHat-based and SUSE distros."

What's the problem installing under Ubuntu?

    Nice review.

    Thanks.

    Later...

    I installed from scratch.

Ubuntu, VMware Server, see my article on that:

no SSL certificates, no xinetd, no 32-bit libs, vmmon module compilation issues without the any-any patch, and a few more problems. You can get over the problems, but it's not simple.
