The windows installer is detected 2/42 @ virustotal, probably nothing, but as both of the two detect it as TDSS and the detection rates for TDSS are generally low I would advise some caution.

I stopped using all codec packs or third-party players, since I consider them as redundant after applying the below, in my eyes a great solution to provide playback of 99% of all the downloaded videos (installing Haali Media Splitter could be useful to play .mkv files):

In my eyes VLC videoplayer is indeed a great and easy solution, I just think the graphical user interface is ugly and so are all the skins.
In my eyes all codec packs are junk, except for Combined Community Codec Pack, however that one doesn't work for 64-bit players (so Windows Media Center in my case).

VLC used to be my favorite player, and format support-wise, it's still very good, but functionality wise? You can't scrub through the video, and I've encountered all kinds of weird video glitches.

Media Player Classic Home Cinema is the king.

    Installed fine.

Why does it require you to uninstall the old version first? Can't it just upgrade over?

I don't know, but sometimes I uninstall it myself first (keeping my profile) & then running the installer.

When using it it always refreshes the font cache....it goes on for minutes until I can play/watch a video...If I cancel that then you can't use it. How can I disable that? Anyone experiencing that with VLC...?

I also use Media Player Classic Home Cinema but I don't use it a lot, what do you think about Zoom players.

Does it handle .rmvb? What about .flv? Or .nsv?

Thanks for the link it worked, finally no more building font cache.
I had been using other media players just because of this issue.
VLC developers need to make this setting the default since many users have this problem.

    Thanks.:D

Why do you use 2 media players if they overlap so much?
