Well, I was doing some reading and decided to give Threatfire a go. However, doesn't work on Vista x64.

I have Avira (free) and SuperAntiSpyware (free) installed so far. Given I am a developer, I am not considering SandboxIE and similar since I often have to download and install libraries and components.

What's are good security programs under Vista x64? I guess all I need is some sort of HIPS?

    Thanks.

You have enough already, in x64 Vista all you really need are Avira and Defender with Spynet turned on. A decent browser is recommended also, that's about it. The usual HIPS won't work in Vista x64, and you don't even need them really...

It is maturing into a good free option, MS is serious about it and the updates now are almost twice a day. Check out their blog for signature, almost all major malware is added daily. Also its a non intrusive HIPS in every sense.

Try Comodo Firewall or Outpost 2009.

    Hello alphadog,

Have you considered the use of either Norton AntiBot(NAB) or Primary Response SafeConnect(PRSC)? If not, I can assure you that they are both compatible with Vista x64. For more information regarding both NAB and PRSC, please take a look at the following links below.

Comodo Firewall w/ Defense+ is another recommended option. But yea, Windows Defender isn't that bad.

Endorse that, had D+ working perfectly on the gaming vista64 box. After tweaking the router fell back to PRSC again, which works on Vista64, but is a 32 bit application.

    Regards
