Sunbelt VIPRE does not have an option to scan all files in Active Protection mode. A default list of file extensions is supplied, and the user can add to it, but there is currently no option to scan all files. (This is not and issue with system scans, only in the Active Protection feature.)

Given that other engines have an option to scan all files, regardless of extension, does this present a weakness in the product?

I understand that since the file execution is determined by extension on Windows (vs. a mod flag on Unix/Linux), if all executable types are covered it might not be an issue, but I am wondering if there is a way malware can infect from non-executable, or extensionless files?

Have you tried using wild characters ?

    Like A* or A?? or ? ? ?
I have used such wild characters in some AVs.

I did try wildcards (?, *) but they seem to be ignored in the current version.
