Think I'm going to disable all shields for now and stop all scheduled scans then. I also have Prevx loaded, so I should be OK until they solve this issue.

  2. I agree Prevx will defend adequately in short term.

I think Prevx is a very good as a stand alone but it is a great addition to any AV! The layered approach is always best!

Recently i had some cryptic explorer.exe crashes in Win7 , followed with MMC.exe crashes. On 2 occasions, Vipre tray icon went red and the active guard was disabled.

It appears, that this explorer.exe crash on 7x64 is a common issue, discussed on sevenforums and it's caused by... Firefox 3.5.5, which i also had installed before the crashes started.

The thing is, that apparently, the Vipre self-protection is weak or something make it crash too from time to time related to explorer.exe crashes.

Since at least 2 Sunbelt reps are in the forum, i thought to post it.

This crash issue was so random , yet consistent, that forced me to remove Firefox.

    Fuzzfas,

If you wouldn't mind, it would be best if you could contact our support directly by emailing support@sunbeltsoftware.com. We can collect a diagnostics from your VIPRE installation to look into what might be causing the issue.

I do know there is a lot of process hardening being done in VIPRE 4.0.

Thanks, but i uninstalled Firefox, so i can't reproduce it again. Besides in many days of repeated crashes, it happened only twice that Vipre went red.

Anyway, i am not using FF until they fix that in the next release. I ended up reinstalling Windows thinking it was driver problem or some explorer shell extension. Then i happened to pass from sevenforums and there was a huge thread about it. It was making me go nuts. I was suspecting even Vipre to be culprit (along with WinPatrol because it polls and maybe some polls do something), but it's Firefox allright!
