Edit: Looks like someone beat me to this news already in the other Vipre thread. :(

Sunbelt approached remove-malware.com and asked him to review Vipre Anti-Virus. His review videos are up on youtube now.

    Hi removemalware (matt),
can you give more details, as to how you prepare/make your test bed ?
Do you have a standard sample set ?

And thanks for the test on VIPRE. I expected it to be better with Spyware due to its CounterSpy lineage. Sad ... Hope they fix it.

Hex_614, there would be a lot of users out there that would benefit from his explanations.

Sure there are some 'slower' moments, but I think it's good how Matt is showing users what to expect when they install the product.

When you see presentations with everything already installed, it makes you wonder what settings have already been tweaked/modified beforehand. So overall, he's doing a good job - helping users that wouldn't know what to expect and/or what they're doing. :thumb:

yeah its a nice presentation, but for me some kind a slow. he is explaining too much in details. and think of this whose watching those kind of videos? are those non computer eliterate?

those people watching those kind of videos, reading and posting here in security forums are all knowledgeable. what makes you think that a simple person like my mom would like to watch thse kind or videos?

    only my comment. no offense

Not really, the infections were loaded "naturally" (this VM was left in a DMZ for 2 months with no protection or patches).

Infections seem to evolve on their own.

Oh yeah...the Vipre Dev team (Alex) contacted me today and said they were working on some of the issues observed by watching my vids.

Wow, thanks man...you are correct. I'm trying to show people what REALLY happens when you buy a particular security product.

I thought he did a great job with the reviews and explaining things. A little disappointing on Vipre's performance against his malware removel tests. However, keeping in mind that Vipre is still so new and tht Sunbelt is working on things, I still feel optomistic about it. I also run SuperAntiSpyware as well so I still feel pretty good about the setup.

No problem, I think more people should watch intructional videos like yours, you're also showing how easy or difficult a program is to setup and install.

I haven't watched all your videos yet, but you'll most likely be addressing common questions on here from a lot of users. You might even want to include, if you haven't already, some common questions on here regarding a program's resource usage, resource usage while scanning, and even how well the program uninstalls (we hate installing something that is difficult to uninstall! ;) ).

Otherwise, good job, you're putting your own personal time into it. :thumb: :thumb:

You're also mentioned in the anti-malware section:

    Hello,

One thing that turns me off with youtube web vids, they're too blurry to learn anything useful. Makers even highlight things with their mouse but it's still too blurry to read.

I'm glad that people spend the time to do these tests to improve awareness of security but they need to improve the screen capturing of these tests. Learn something about video production as it relates to youtube.

Simple editing would help to remove boring, repetitive or dead air moments, keeping the attention of those with mild ADHD.

I submit two examples, one well done and one not very good:

    The Not Very Good One
    Matt's Video

    The One Well Done

    Matt/removemalware, your a great tester!
    Make better vids
How to make non blurry vids

    HTH,

I think his videos are great, especially the Avira one.;)

Curious to see if you could do Dr. Web for us.

    So do I :)

They've been hyping that it can be installed on already infected system and that it does better in "real world" than in lab testing.

What happens here(hopefully)is that we might see if there is any true in their words or not. And we have something to use as an argument when complaining to their support about bad result, if they also do this kind of test poorly .. after they've just criticized the "traditional" testing.
