Here is a link to a very good article written by Tony Nrothrup over at MS. on firewalls. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/columns/northrup/02august12.asp
Good article, especially for nOObs. Finally someone from M$ that talked like he knew at least a little about real world protection. Give that man a raise.
Reretty Good Article This is a good basic opening that newbies will find useful to get them started on getting and using a Firewall. The next step IMO is to provide step-by-step Reviews of basic set-up procedures for the most popular firewalls. Think we could do something like that, as a group (Wilders) effort? Perhaps the authors/owners of those firewalls might sponsor the bandwidth? Just kicking around some ideas here.
Hi PS, Many such a step-by-step reviews are around; why not first try to locate them and provide links? Actually, we (that's www.wilders.org ) are providing such info in regard to several - selected - security apps. As for the moment, no firewalls have been implemented in regard to step-by-step instructions. It's our policy to test and review security software on our site; this board is in essence for questions and answers. We have declined any kind of sponsoring (for whatever reasons), and will keep doing so. Being purely non profit is the best guarantee for independency in our view. ..and highly appreciated! regards. paul
I have posted already, but RISC OS built a website with comprehensive instructions and information for Outpost. It is excellent help for those new to Outpost. I agree, all products should have such support. http://www.outpostfirewall.com/guide/
