There is some more news on this at the VBA32 forum, seems they needed a little rework.

VBA has a poll up in their forum asking what the most needed feature(s) are, these will be weighted by VBA and possibly incorporated into their product as time permits at the discretion of dev's.

Please cast(post) your votes/comments/suggestions they are looking for feedback! :)

This is a taste of what is to come from VBA in regards to responsiveness and memory footprint.

    http://xs215.xs.to/xs215/07216/New_VBA32_Beta.JPG.xs.jpg

More to come later this coming week, as in public beta testing of afore mentioned version.
Looks like N8Chavez got his wish. :)

    Things noted so far:
    Responsiveness OOB, quick!
As can be seen memory footprint decrease, by half!
No need to chage the default settings, mine from the screen cap are maxed-out.

Looks promising but I did not consider the previous RTM memory requirements excessive, particularly on newer machines where RAM is generally not limiting.

Now if they can improve the on-demand scan speed ;)

Not only since i changed to the beta i noticed a much lighter system impact but after doing a max detect scan yesterday i felt that ondemand speed also increased alot.

    Go go vba!

I knew it was only a matter of time. Okay, I didn't. But this is certainly great news seeing as how as my "favs" as all undergoing major changes. Dr Web is going to v5, nod32 seems to be slipping, and jest when I thought understood everything, VBA32 actually proved they give a damn. I've always liked them for their combination of frigin' sweet heuristics and rapidly increasing signature count. It looks as though there is hope on the horizon for VBA32. Hopeully, it will become more recognied and accepted now.

I think they should exclude paranoid heuristic or at least leave that feature for emails only.

Also new, modern user interface would bring them more customers.

Hopefully someone has an answer to this, but if not oh well. I'm curious, in the beta version being discussed here what are the hard drive requirements? I understand that the engine has been rewritten to allow for lower resource usage. Is that true? I am wondering then what effect that will have in terms of required space. Hopefully that will also decrease as there is no real need for an AV to be that large; Dr Web 4.44 beta is only 11.5 meg. I understand that it is not a real critical issue. But when you are trying to keep an TI image that can fit on a CD space then becomes an issue.

    2 n8chavez:
Program size has been decreased. But it isn't so considerable as memory footprint reduction.
