    Thanks for posting these results.

I noticed in the top tier Kaspersky 6.
    Version 6 o_O

That version is several years old.
    Am I missing something ?

A good point! In the highest tier, most of the "winners" have multiple engines. On the other hand, Ikarus attained its high standing with just ONE engine -- its OWN!

Why Symantec received a bad result like that?. A low detection rate make me suprised.

Me too. Norton has done well in the AV Comparatives tests except for the Retro tests. It was one of the two top AVs on the Dynamic tests.

I am running Norton 2011 beta on my laptop, and it is running extremely well.

AV C Aug tests will be interesting. I am not sure if it is a Dynamic or On-Demand test.

    Regards,
    Jerry

As far as I know, it will be an On-Demand Test, they release Dynamic test at the end of the year.

G Data, McAfee, Norman and BitDefender failed for the VB100 awards (avast! 5 Free and Microsoft Security Essentials passed).

The normal test: you have to detect all from the WidList and don't generate a false positive on a clean set.

G Data: detected all malware, but with 15 FP's.
McAfee: missed a couple of Virut malwares, but with zero FP's.
Norman: detected all malware, but with 1 FP.
BitDefender: detected all malware, but with 15 FP's.

(G Data = BitDefender + avast!; you can clearly see that in these results.)

Good to hear! :D I was just wondering if the IKARUS scanning is as slow as EAM. ;)

Because of the test type .
This is the endpoint protection - just corporate product . It is a lot different than Norton. Additionally , Symantec gave them the full package and an Intelligent updater to update just signatures (details written in the full VB issue available to paid subscribers only).

As the tests conducted by Virus Bulletin are offline tests , some products can't really excell , can't demonstrate all their abilities. SEP , for example , can't update its Proactive module without internet connection . Without this , the whole test conducted by Virus Bulletin is pure signature scanning.

I support Symantec in their decision not to submit Norton this time . Hope Norton never again touches Virus Bulletin . The prevous time , it was all just a jeer with Norton and all other products with modern technologies . Norton relies on Internet (SONAR,Insight,IPS,SafeWeb,etc) . Conducting tests without internet connection (like in 1990s) is just a joke. Proactive module also relies on updates. Virus Bulletin is not a real-world test.

Well said. I'm not a Norton user but testing is flawed. Most, if not all, companies are relying on new detection methods that rely on internet connection to talk to the "cloud". How can testing offline give us a true read on how they perform in the real world?

Yes it passed this August Test.
The test was in a pc with Windows Vista SP2 business edition

    Now AVG have:
    33 success vb100 test
    22 failure
