using email clients with Hotmail/Live/Outlook

    one major problem of using something like Thunderbird with Hotmail is that the Hotmail Junk folder is 'invisible' in Thunderbird.

    the Junk filter in Hotmail is pretty good, but unfortunately it sends good email in the Junk folder.
    not a problem if you are using a web browser but if you use an email client it is a recipe for disaster.

    the solution is to adjust the settings in Hotmail like in the image below.
    be advised that by doing so ALL emails will go into your Inbox, including junk.

    but it is better than missing a very important email.

    Good tip! Been using this method for quite a while now. I also use the same method in Gmail and Yahoo! Mail on accounts I use POP3. It's not needed when using IMAP.
