I like YUMI but I haven't really looked much into details and setup. 1 question: If you use one of the previous version, how do you 'update' it on the USB drive you have 'installed' your ISO files?
Hi, The app itself is portable so you can just download and run the newer version. For ISOs, there is an option to remove the existing install, then you can go ahead and install the newer version. There is a note on the website about having to reformat and start over if using a previous app (MultibootISOs) but since I've been using it I've just removed and added the ISOs as above. Edit: grammar...
I used XBOOT today and was very impressed. I did not actually need to create a multiboot USB, but XBOOT did the job when other software wouldn't. I needed to do a backup of a SSD today, and then install a new SSD and restore the backup to the new larger SSD. Because the computer with the SSD is an ultrabook with no optical drive, I tried to use my Acronis Rescue CD from an external USB DVD drive. However it appears that my external DVD driver is no longer working, so I needed to write the Acronis ISO to a flash drive, so I could boot from the USB and run Acronis that way. In theory you can do this from the Acronis install, but, I do not have True Image installed on my work computer, and secondly I don't think the resulting bootable USB stick would be work anyway. The ISO image I burned to CD from my purchased version of True Image was the same crippled version that comes with the trial of True Image, and you have to actually log into your Acronis account and download the full ISO to get the fully working rescue ISO. At work I have limited user account, and I tried a few different programs to do the job. But, several needed admin access to install, and another ran but failed to recognise that there was flash drive in one of the USB ports. Then, I came across XBOOT and it did the job. While I was only writing a single ISO to the flash drive, the resulting bootable USB stick works the same no matter if you have a one or several ISOs written to it. I like the menu which comes up to select which image you want to boot to after you boot from the flash drive. After doing this and seeing how easy it is to make a multiboot flash drive, I am tempted to buy a large capacity flash drive and install a number of ISOs I regularly use onto it such as Acronis and multiple versions of Windows 7 and Vista ISOs. (I don't run Vista myself, but I regularly fix computer still running Vista).
Does anyone know if XBOOT is still being actively developed? It has been a long time since there has been a new version.
I'm guessing not as it's nearly two years since the last beta version was released. However that beta version is working really well for me.
Idk either if Xboot will be going forward or not but i also found it better capable to without issues to create functioning USB flash boot medium where others fail.
