Because this is a topic which has many multi-usb programs, i thought to ask here: Is there any tool that supports multi-boot windows versions?
I use Easy2Boot to build multi WinPE and Linux boot UFDs for BIOS computers. It´s good, some learning needed. It´s very easy to add or delete ISOs, the boot menu is created at execution time. Also very colorful. Haven´t tried it for UEFI computers.
Being a noob who would like to create his first Multiboot UFD I've read this entire thread and my thanks goes out to all contributors. Just one question, how does RUFUS compare to the likes of Easy2Boot and YUMI?
Scott, there's one BIG difference, Rufus creates bootable UFDs (easily and quickly), but NOT multi-booting UFDs! Cruise
Yes, and according to the developer there won´t be a multi-boot Rufus. Besides Easy2Boot, I also use WinSetupFromUSB to build mult-boot UFDs. They work in both UEFI and BIOS.
Hi Robin, I'm not familiar with WinSetupFromUSB. Going by the name, is it limited to just setting-up (installing) Windows or can it also be used to boot backup recovery disks and other bootable utility disks? Cruise
I use it to create UFDs with several WinPE ISOs. I have also tried to add Linux ISOs, so far unsucessfully.
According to my rather limited experience with these tools: WSF-USB: OK for BIOS and UEFI (the same UFD), OK for WinPE. I haven´t been able to add Linux ISOs. It´s easy to add a WinPE ISO, but to delete one the whole USB must be recreated. Easy2Boot: OK for BIOS with WinPE and Linux ISOs. It seems that some extra steps and tools are required to create a UFD for UEFI systems. I haven´t tried it, the instructions are somewhat confusing. It´s easy to add and delete ISOs without recreating the whole UFD.
Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. Just a few more questions... With WSFUSB can you update an existing iso with a newer build without recreating the entire UFD? SARDU really seems cool - does it still install unwanted programs (e.g. Babylon)?
Yes, you can add a new ISO without rebuilding the UFD, but to delete an old one, you have to rebuild. The program is run from an .exe, it doesn´t install. And it has not installed any unwanted program in my case. I run it in Shadow Mode (with Shadow Protect enabled).
Robin, are you saying that if I have 'Rescue1.1' on WSFUSB and now I update it to 'Rescue1.2' the later will replace the former or will be added in addition to the former? Re SARDU, what did you find its pros/cons to be?
In WSFUSB, if you add Rescue1.2, it will be added in addition to the former. I haven´t used SARDU, may look into it later.
Scott, If E2B's 'learning curve' is too steep for you I would suggest YUMI. It is very simple to use and you can easily update/remove ISOs without having to recreate your UFD. SARDU v3 (still an RC, not yet final) is free of all crapware. It had a few bugs which I reported to the dev last month so they may be corrected by now. The final version is due in another month.
