Upgrade to ESET NOD32 AV 3.0.667.0 fails

I am a licensed user posting her experience of updating from 3.0.642 to .667 on XP SP2 if it can be of help to anyone

1. Installing 3.0.667 on top of 3.0.642 failed with setup pop-up window
"a network error occurred while attempting to read from the file c:\windows\installer\eav_nt32_enu.msi". Event viewer Application Log (%SystemRoot%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s) indicated MsiInstaller Error 1316.
2. Reboot NORMAL MODE.
3. Log on as Administrator (no firewall) with scenario #1, fails same as
#1.
4. Reboot NORMAL MODE.
5. Log on as Administrator (same as #3) and attempt uninstall of .642
first. Fails same way as #1.
6. Reboot SAFE MODE.
7. Logon as Administrator attempt uninstall. Fails same as #1.
8. Reboot NORMAL MODE.
9. Logon as Aministrator and use Windows Installer Cleanup to remove
NOD32 .642 msi entry :

10. Delete ESET registry entries.
11. Reboot NORMAL MODE.
12. Logon as Administrator and delete c:\program files\ESET
13. Install ESET NOD32 3.0.667 successful
