    Dell just replaced Hard Drive with new. I fully formated with Windows XP Pro (SP2), re-installed Windows sucessfully, and then restored image to new drive sucessfully according to True Image 8. Now when starting I get this message:

    "Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem.
    Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware.
    Please check the windows documentaion about hardware disk configuration and you hardware reference manuals for additonal information"

    Do I need to add the Dell hardware drivers, etc. even though Windows started fine before running Restore?

    Thanks..

    Hello wolfp20,

    Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

    Please boot the computer from Windows XP Installation CD and run "fixmbr" command in Recovery Console. If it does not help then please follow the suggestions from the thread mentioned above by Tom and check your boot.ini file.

    Please also note that there is no need to install Windows prior to restoring the image, since Acronis True Image 9.0 will overwrite the partition(s) of the destination hard drive with the data from the image archive anyway. You just need to boot your PC from Bootable Rescue CD and restore your image.

    You can find more information on how to use Acronis True Image 9.0 in the respective User's Guide.

    If the problem still persists then please collect the following information:

    - Whether you have created an image of the entire hard drive or an image of the system partition only?

    - What are the types of the original (source) disk and new (destination) hard drive (e.g. IDE, S-ATA, SCSI, ect.)?

    - Have you prepared your Windows for transferring using Microsoft System Preparation tool as it is described in this FAQ article?

    - Where do you store your image?

    Please also create Acronis Report in the way described below:

    - Download Acronis Report Utility and run it only healthy PC;

    - Select the "Create Bootable Floppy" option;

    - Insert a blank floppy disk in the A: drive and proceed with creation of the bootable floppy;

    - Boot the computer having the issue from this diskette and wait for report creation process to finish;

    - Collect the report file from the floppy.

    Submit a request for technical support. Attach all the collected files and information to your request along with the step-by-step description of the actions taken before the problem appears and the link to this thread. We will investigate the problem and try to provide you with the solution.

    Thank you.
