Just checking out the free version for the first time, previously been wary of IObit (since the old MwB 'squabble') ...

VT doesn't like it very much, probably all the PUP stuff, also seems quite chatty through (Glasswire) firewall at install - and BlackFog Privacy repeatedly detecting attempted PowerShell execution ('attacks') ...

But I've seen good words here on Wilders, so I presume the consensus is that it's OK?

Used to pay for Revo, but not sure it's worth it anymore - looking for a good free uninstaller, and maybe preferably portable ... Geek Uninstaller?

It works well and is safe to use. Just remember that the issue with Malwarebytes, was with theft of their signatures. Their actual software was not doing anything malicious.

For a free uninstaller it works quite well. There is an unofficial portable version, but it is long out of date, so you may want to have a look at Geek. Nothing else comes to mind, as I usually avoid portable software.

OK, I see there is a portable version on PortableApps.com (and Softpedia), that dates back to Aug 2018 (v7.5.0.7), thanks.

I'll second the Geek Uninstaller recommendation. I've used it for years to good effect. Never had any problems with it. I've never bought the Pro version, called Uninstall Tool, but after all these years I should. It's only $24.95 lifetime.

Today I downloaded from BitsDuJour, IObit UnInstaller. As always I uploaded the program to VirusTotal and Dr. Web, GData, eGambit and Sophos AV found problems with the program. Have any other of our members experienced this? If so, will you install the program or pass? As always, I will appreciate all replies and would thank you in advance.

Is there any recent efficiency test of uninstallers somewhere? All I could find were quite clearly biased reviews with no actual testing done or tests that are 2+ years old.

@jpcummins Just downloaded the same file. They are just detect an IOBit product as potentially unwanted. No real problem here

It is detected as being potentially unwanted, rather than being actual malware. In my experience, it is one of the best uninstallers there is. It does a very good job of finding leftover files and registry keys, supports batch uninstall, so that you can uninstall a number of programs and scan for the leftovers, one after the other. As well it can automatically monitor the installation of a lot of software, so that is has a record of what files and registry keys were created, so that it cleanly uninstall the software.

At the moment the installation monitor the installation of all software, but it works quite well for programs that it can monitor.

Even the standard free version is very good.
I haven't done any tests for a few years. But based on past tests I would expect IObit, Revo and Geek, to do a similar job. But IObit will do a better job than the others, for installations it has monitored.

I'm sorry to say IOBIT does,t do such a great job. Any person here using it that uninstall a good set of things with it should go right now to windows, folder system32, drivers hover over any K's if you had on kaspersky and you will find drivers, if you had comodo uninstalled with it hover of C's and you will find drivers for it or any anti-virus you uninstall with it just hover over the letter it begin with and you will surely fine drivers it didn't uninstall.

That is the same for Revo and any other uninstaller which scans for leftovers after running the standard uninstaller. This won't be an issue if IObit Uninstaller monitored the installation of the security software, or you use the manual install monitoring in Revo, Total Uninstall, etc. Also, some antiviruses will remove all their drivers just by running the included uninstaller, so it is not an issue with every antivirus.

In general the best way to ensure the security software is completely uninstalled in to run the vendor's own removal tool after uninstalling it from Add/Remove Programs. In some cases, the removal tools, won't actually remove every leftover trace, but it's still better than just uninstalling the software normally.

Anyone who knows how it works with IOBits uninstaller when a reboot is necessary during an installation. How does it continue to logg, do i have to do a maneuver to create that.

I believe it will automatically keep monitoring the install, after rebooting. There is no option to manually do it. However I have no tested this myself.
