Uninstall Problems

I have tried twice to uninstall my NOD32 ver 2.

I used the uninstall from the ESETT folder.
It asked to reboot, which I did.
Upon reboot, the splash screen appeared again!
I checked and the program was gone from the start menu.
I went into explorer and deleted Esett from the programs group.....everything would delete except "nodshex.dll".......that dll wont delete because it is "in use".
I then reinstalled NOD32 and then uninstalled it again....same results.

What is the problem with nod32's uninstall and how do I get this off of my machine?

I'm sure one of the big guy's will see this
& try to help you but one thing to try is
goto Start/Run then type msconfig goto

startups tab & look for that file if there Uncheck
it then do a reboot see if that helps at all
then let them know if it helped also tell them
what you are running for Windows

yeah, I know all about that trick. The problem with that is Windows incessantly prompts you about your change after every reboot when you are using XP.

I ended up going into the registry and deleting everything that was related to NOD, esett, etc. Then I went into the program files again and was able to delete the .dll that was giving me problems. I'd still like to know the cause of it though.......

 

You might try to uninstall the files from the safe mode. I can't recall if I had that problem with NOD or not; however it can sometimes get around the problem in a "safe" manner.

A reboot should do the trick, if not, restart in safe mode and delete the bugger, usually when a file cannot be deleted is because a registry entry calles upon the file for execution, so there might be some registry entries left behind by NOD, you should try and download a registry cleaner, always come on handy for these kind of issues.

Unfortunately the reboot didn't do the trick....tried it several times........

As stated above, the problem is solved now by editing the registry. However, the uninstall option from within the program should have cleaned up ALL program files and not caused this issue.

Well if you are on XP to stop that from happening
when you do the reboot just put a check mark in the
box click Ok then when you reboot you should not see
that Box come up again

You need to do a CTL ALT DEL and shut down the NOD exe before uninstalling. Even if you close NOD from task bar another copy runs

 

Gee, you'd think the NOD32 uninstaller would close down the program before it proceeded to uninstall itself and then corrupt everything!

What are you talking about? If you close NOD from the systray (why would you close from the task bar...what is it doing there anyhow...it sits in the systray) there is no additional NOD running! If you do a c/a/d after closing there is nothing of NOD listed. Are you saying that NOD has some secret program that runs no matter what and that does not show when c/a/d is done? That would fall under the category of spyware and NOD is not spyware.

I agree with Guru guy though that the uninstaller should shut down the program before uninstalling.

 

I am sorry Mele20, I did mean the systray.

BUT If I shutdown NOD 32 ver. 2.0 from the systray on me Windows XP home system. then do a ctl alt del it still shows running.
Me thinks NOD does this so a rouge app does not shut down NOD
easly.
The file is nod32krn.exe

and no NOD is not spywear..

 

Yet the fact remains that it's own uninstaller should shut down ALL related processes when uninstalling so as not to corrupt anything.........which in MY case, clearly did not happen.

Ahhh...OK...gotcha! I have W98SE and it doesn't behave that way on this OS. In fact, if exited by c/a/d all sorts of problems ensue. Windows hangs on shutdown/reboot and then reboot hangs so that you have to start in safe mode. So, shutting down NOD from the systray can be done but really is a no-no because of the ensuing problems. I suppose those problems are the equivalent of the file that continues to run in XP after you try to c/a/d NOD. In other words, it is NOT a good idea on any OS to shut down NOD from the systray.

Because of these safeguards in XP and the ensuing problems in W98 which thoroughly discourage one from using c/a/d to shut NOD down, this does make it important
like GuruGuy says for the NOD uninstaller to safely shut down the program before uninstalling. Since that doesn't happen, I suppose the only way currently to safely uninstall would be to uncheck NOD32 iin MSCONFIG and then reboot and then uninstall. I see nothing about how to correctly uninstall NOD in the help file. Are there instructions for this in the help file?
