I am unable to update Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta definitions. It says I have the latest definitions updates, when reality appears otherwise!

I have Microsoft AntiSpyware Version: 1.0.615
    This version expires on: 12/31/2005
    Spyware Definition Version: 5765 (10/9/2005 11:25:52 AM)

I understand that there are updates to the definitions as of 11/10/05.

Note the following in the diagnostic output for my definition version 5765:
    Definitions Increment Version: 118/118
    Definitions ThreatAuditThreatData: 1306338
    Definitions ThreatAuditScanData: 2772542
    Definitions DeterminationData: 611858

I know that Increment version 118/118 (5765) must be prior to 128/128 (5775), but the listing in https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=106085 (in the update alerts subforum) had different threat defs numbers that are less than above:

    Definitions Increment Version: 128/128
Definitions ThreatAuditThreatData: 1297900 <---less than mine
    Definitions ThreatAuditScanData: 2838241 <---more
    Definitions DeterminationData: 694117 <---more

Is this a problem, or a true variance depending on the AS tools you have running on your computero_Oo_Oo_Oo_O??

Why doesn't Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta1 update?

    Hi All,

I resolved the issue of updates as follows:
    1) Using Registrar Lite, removed every last remnant of Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta 1 (July 2005 issue) via several case-sensitive string searches (necessary as using only gcas collides with other unrelated registry entries)
    2) Installed Nov 2005 issue of Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta 1 (good through July 31, 2006), and when it becomes a product will be free for personal use as mentioned by Bill Gates his own self!
    3) Still had problem of updating until I discovered that you can download the 3 update definition files (latest) from here:

    http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcDeterminationData.gcd
    http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcThreatAuditScanData.gcd
    http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcThreatAuditThreatData.gcd

The Nov 2005 release got me to update #5773, but no further with the update problem, and my definitions were as follows:

    Spyware Definition Version: 5773 (11/26/2005 8:34:33 PM)
    Definitions Increment Version: 126/126
    Definitions ThreatAuditThreatData: 1295928
    Definitions ThreatAuditScanData: 2833207
    Definitions DeterminationData: 650730

With the downloaded updates, I am now fully updated to #5779 as follows:

    Spyware Definition Version: 5779 (11/26/2005 8:34:33 PM)
    Definitions Increment Version: 132/132
    Definitions ThreatAuditThreatData: 1299772
    Definitions ThreatAuditScanData: 2851625
    Definitions DeterminationData: 704093

Also, perhaps part of the problem may have been that I chose not to join the spynet.com community which is where the updates are downloaded from - either that or when MSAS Beta 1 always told me I had the latest (when I knew that to be false from the update alert subforum here) it must have not connected and failed to tell me or it has a serious bug in that it told me that I had the latest when it failed to connect, or perhaps you have to be a member of the community to get the updateso_Oo_O Not a problem now! :D
