at the bottom of the page did you see a list of the progs. that have issues. It also states that is probable not all the progs that do have issues just the ones on the list so far.

Have you checked application or system logs for anything unusual around the time you noticed any of this?
Have a look at this post lk by Tony Klein on IE (pre-sp2).

You never mentioned if you were to adobe and what they may have suggested...

Gee, I thought you wrapped this up by now! :D

Anyway, about 1/3 of the way down look at Reinstall or Repair IE / OE in Windows XP.
I'm still trying to locate your specific issue, but if you get this cleared, you better post back with the answer.....

Edit : You know, looking around that probably won't work either. Yet another sp2 page.

    Plus lk,
I'm beginning to think this is a file compatibility problem between you already having IE and then the sp2 service pack.
Maybe it's worth a shot to uninstall the old IE and sp2, then grab a fresh IE and reload sp2.
The new IE should have all the patches and files for the sp2 upgrade.....what d'ya think?

Check out the content of this page on "files" at experts-exchange. More xp2 issues

    BINGO!!! THIS IS IT!!!

Could this be part of the problem? Can I delete the extra Admin and user account that appears no active (look at dates)

OK, now you did it! You just threw a huge wrench into the equation. :D

I'm catching this to late to search for info tonight, but will keep on it.
Looking at what you've got there....... o_O , plus I have no knowledge of Giant AS.

Sorry Lynch, someone experienced and whom you trust will need to advise from here.
I did manage to locate a few pages on the subject for reference,

I hope in the meantime these can shed some light. Good reading at ee.

I really appreciate the time you spent searching for a solution. Somehow I missed "bingo" but with your recent post, I guess not............. :(

I would have run sfc /scannow a long time ago but I can't seem to find my xp disk - I have an iso on my HD but mounting that with daemon tools does not work (it mounts and you can see files but invalid for sfc)

So are you in the clear? OR, do you have other issues?
Was BINGO it?! I'm not sure I follow if you resolved the problem.....

    Well, you stated
    - so I assumed "bingo" was not the solution. I'm still looking for my XP pro CD.

BTW, BINGO is your exact error message!

Say Lynch, I'm running a bit low on topics to search, so maybe you can throw me a bone here.

Tell me, you had IE6 installed prior to the sp2 download...correct?
Did you install as a dwnld from M$, or the cd?

Now I'm just trying to add up, the sp2 version of IE is not available as a standalone dwnld.
sp2 IE is included with the sp2 servicepack, meaning this is where setup would "see" the already installed "newer version", correct?

What say, you uninstall/remove the version that's on and continue setup with sp2's included upgrade of IE?
(Uninstall through add/remove, just make sure it's not running).

    Thought's, input. I need more...

    edit : Oop's!
Sorry. Incorrect info. There is no standalone xp2 IE, it's servicepack integrated...

Yes, as I stated that I am having trouble looking for my WinXP pro CD (somewhere in a mess of 1000 CD's scattered all over my office - figured I would not need again since I have True Image and other "slipstreamed" versions)

    SP2 is RTM version

I tried with registry trick but upon trying to install sp1 IE build, it would say there is a newer version of IE already installed and cannot continue.

Thank you very much for your help and time GlobalForce :)

    Lynch,

You did mention in "desktops" that you tidied -up a bit before posting, my comment (figured you...). :D
ahhh, never know when you'll need this or that..... ;) Preparation, preparation...

Getting on with it, pun aside, I found two pages for you to peruse until.....
They both cover lots of issues, some xp2 and some pre. Take a look,

    http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm

    http://snakefoot.fateback.com/tweak/winnt/install.html

Along with some of the others I've posted, they're worth a bookmark.
BTW, does Photoshop Elements work? Something about the legacy drivers in that link from BigC.......

Thanks guys. I ran that IE fix but it also ran SFC (I found my CD) so I don't really know what fixed it but LOOK!

    :D :D :D

    - yes, it works but I kept losing PNG and "save for web" - I made a copy of it in program files - I deleted the file 2x so far and renamed the copy.

You guys deserve more that one case. Will this be enough?

Hey, thanks again for your help. I'm very relieved. I'm glad I did not listen to others and reformat - I hate going that route.
