Amazing how I never got any kind of response to emails concerning free upgrades to the first version that had a **working** boot-time module but I still get all of their marketing emails and offers.

same issue with boot time as before unable to verify descriptors when trying to run pd12.5 after running a boot time with ultimate defrag (this is BECAUSE THEY ARE USING THE OLD V3 BOOT TIME DEFRAG lol) this is ridiculous. they release v4 with the old boot time. i mean it even says it as i posted earlier right when it starts up..

It **is** ridiculous. Speaking of which, how about the following statement (from the UltimateDefrag Version 4 Boot Time System File Defragmentation page)?

"The UltimateDefrag boot time/system file defrag module is a world first in what it enables you to be able to do when it comes to defragging and moving system files to areas on your drive that further enhance performance."

    Please!

This is a joke. I keep PerfectDisk 12.5 better for my system. I hope they will learn the lesson about this.

I currently use PerfectDisk v11. I wonder of PDs' "SmartPlacement" positions files in the same way that UlimateDefrag claims to do? I've never seen an actual platter representation for PD like they show on the UltimateDefrag site.

I rather like the product overall, and recommend it from time to time. BUT, when folks go to the site to see what I'm talking about the campy overstated claims undo anything I might have said.

There are a number of other things that need to be fixed.

    1- Where's the changelog?
2- Where's the user forums and technical support?
3- With all the options in the program, there's nothing describing file precedence. What happens when a file is both in Archive and High Performance? Where does it really go if both are checked? The manual does not explain priority.
4- The boot time optimization. While I don't have any problems with it on a simple XP machine, this isn't the case for a lot of other folks with 7 and 8 I believe.

    1- Settings/General/Options/FilesAndFolders/SelectFiles
The size column gives you garbage characters on small-size or zero-size files.

    2- Help/DiskTrixWebsite pulldown is non-functional

3- While this is not a bug, I would like clarification. There is no clear definition of what happens when you have a file selected in both the HighPerformance AND Archive sections. Which one takes priority? Where does the file go?

4- Sometimes the ModeSelection button doesn't work, you have to hover over another selection and then go back in order to get it to recognize a change/click. This is a very old bug from a while ago.

5- When a disk has not been defragged, it says "No Yet". It should read "Not yet" or "None".

And what does FragProtect do? Does it create extra spaces between files? And can (somehow) it be applied to a specific file?

Since a defrag program moves data around quite a bit, I need to question the integrity of the program if little bugs like this creep in; is it safe to use?

IMHO, the 3 version is the better of these choices. The GUI in 4 is fallen woefully inadequate and in 4 i noticed SIMULATION displayed when it isn't even been engaged yet! The defrag is definitely not up to the standards of the previous version by a long stretch and i don't dare try a boot time defrag on 4 with so many of these issues & glitches showing fresh out of a new release.

I am testing 4.. I been working with the engineers with some of the bugs. The latest test version they have me using for debugging was finally able to do a full defrag and not get stuck at 98% when I am using a complicated defrag. I have 30% frequently used data percentage based on data usage, game folders, window folders and some other folders selected also for high performance.. 50% least used data percentage based on data usage with all archive file types listed iso, wim, img, .r*, ect. Selected respect high performance, respect archives, move directories close to MFT, ect. and it completed for the first time with all them options selected without a hitch. So definitely seems to be some under the hood improvement which I could never get to work with my paid version 3.

Contact support they do care and do work on the bugs and they added logging capability due to my suggestion as I was crashing alot and trying to figure out why it was doing this.

To coin a simple analogy which is more often then not right on par, like other industrial production run products, some releases are better all around then others, including "new ones". New updated versions don't always prove more stable and/or accurate then their former predecessors all the time, so untill v4 can show it's better programmed, version 3 seems to be their best defrag of DiskTrix's releases in my book. And i take great pains to finely polish all my HD Disks to perform at their absolute maximum efficiency!
