Yes but since the BETA has the same build number it won't tell anything until 5.4.0.1 at least. That's maybe a mistake from us, but since technically the BETA 4 == 5.4 stable we didn't change the number.

Until now we didn't have much choice because of existing data there, we would have had many complaints about loosing license status etc...
In a few versions from now we'll removing dependancy on the registry key, just to make sure everyone updated to the new portable system

    Hi @Tigzy :

What minor bug fixes are included?

I just ran an initial scan with v5.5.0.0-BETA1 and Winget detection ON and all my apps previously classified as "Winget" in UCheck Free Portable v5.4.0.0 (stable) are now "Unsupported". It also looks like my portable AdwCleaner app that was fully supported ("Compatible") in v5.4.0.0 is now "Unsupported". Are these bugs that needs to be reported or a deliberate change?

I'm afraid we didn't change anything there. Is it the case with stable version ?

The migration is the problem. Before, everything was in %programdata%, with a backup in registry. Now %programdata% is installed version only, only remains backup for the transition.

@Tigzy in 5.50-BETA1 it does not appear that "Refresh Data" does anything? UCheck told me that Edge needed to be updated; I updated it; then I hit Refresh Data and it still shows in the list. I did a re-scan and it correctly shows it as updated.

This is the first time that I've visited this long thread.
To save me reading through every page, I'll ask the obvious question. Is UCheck any good?

It does only if the data changed... That's for example if you update it outside of UCheck.

Yes, it's the best in the world :)
EDIT: I think the best is to try it, there's a 30-days trial for Premium but you can also use only the free version.

I love Windows, but keeping software up to date on Windows machines is one of the biggest drawbacks of it. UCheck might be worth looking into.

    Hi @Tigzy :

I switched back to UCheck Free Portable v5.4.0.0 (stable) and it runs as expected - "Winget" apps are displayed on the Installed tab and my 3 outdated "Winget" apps are included on the Updates tab.

UCheck v5_4_0_0 Winget Scan ON Five Updates 31 May 2024.png

I ran another scan with v5.5.0.0-BETA1 today and the scan finished in only a few seconds and looked more like a refresh than a new scan. My "Winget" apps once again switched back to "Unsupported", two of my outdated "Winget" apps that changed to "Unsupported" (32-bit and 64-bit Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 - 2022 Redistributables) disappeared from the Updates tab, and my portable AdwCleaner app that was fully supported ("Compatible") switched back to "Unsupported".

I might fiddle around later to see if I can get the v5.5.0.0-BETA1 working properly if I delete my old config files and start from scratch with a clean install, but as of today it behaves more like an ALPHA release than a BETA on my system. For now I've downgraded back to UCheck Free Portable v5.4.0.0 (stable).

Version 5.5 New BETA (2) is available !
Link here: AdliceSoftware/UCheck: UCheck Bug Tracker (github.com)
    Issues here: Issues · AdliceSoftware/UCheck (github.com)

    Fixed minor issues
Fixed issue where Winget linking was mixed up with other programs having almost the same name (due to Winget limitations)

Please note because of this Winget issue https://github.com/microsoft/winget-cli/issues/1653 (lots of people complaining, hopefully they do something)
we had to NOT support some of the programs if they have a long name and if there's a similar one on the same machine, for example:

    - "Very very long name that would result in Winget truncating the end of it version x86"
    - "Very very long name that would result in Winget truncating the end of it version x64"

    UCheck would see something like

    - "Very very long name that would result in Winget truncating the end..."
    - "Very very long name that would result in Winget truncating the end..."

And would not be able to know which one is what, therefore we decided to drop Winget information in this case.
It should be minor cases, but I know for sure most of the Microsoft C++ detections are in this situation.

Did the update succeed ? Also, didn't the version change in UCheck after you hit "Refresh" ?

Pay attention, now UCheck loads last scan information when you start it. It's fast, and it's just old information fed into the UI.
If you're not sure, please re-run a scan.

There is a typo for german. "Sever" should be "Server". (sorry, no github account).

    Hi @Tigzy :

Yes, I'm certain I clicked the SCAN button on the main dashboard to start a new scan after the previous scan results loaded into the interface (which is a new feature I personally don't like).

Thanks for the explanation about why my 32-bit and 64-bit Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 - 2022 Redistributables are no longer supported. I'll try today's new v5.5.0.0-BETA2 and if it runs better than yesterday's BETA1 I'll post any undocumented bugs I find at https://github.com/AdliceSoftware/UCheck/issues.

The update did succeed. The version changed in UCheck but it didnt remove it from the list as I would expect and most other tools do (the best version checker app in the world, in my opinion, is MacUpdater... anything you can do to be more like them is a win!)
