    Hi @Tigzy :

Further to my 05-Apr-2024 post #1422, I created a new bug report on the Adlice github site today at Winget Apps Do Not Display Latest Version Number #43 that includes an example where winget finds an available update for my Windows PC Health Check app but UCheck v5.4.0.0-BETA1 displays the word "winget" as the Latest available version.

    Hi @Tigzy :

Thanks for that information regarding the reporting of erroneous detections.

It would be helpful if someone could update the instructions in Curson's 03-Oct-2023 Erroneous Detection / Application Support Request that is pinned at the top of the Adlice UCheck board to reflect this change in policy.

It does both finding outdated data, and allows updating (it's transparent to the user).
It's in BETA, from what I can see some people have Winget parsing issue in UCheck. Maybe this would help us ?
    Code:
    winget.exe list --disable-interactivity >> out.txt
And then send me the file here ? https://adlice.com/contact/
We'll see how we can detect Winget on disk instead of guessing its location. It probably registers itself ?

Could you do the same as requested here ? https://www.wilderssecurity.com/thr...tware-in-2-clicks.404593/page-58#post-3190486
And send me the file ?

The portable version still saves this UI data into the registry.

    Hi @Tigzy :

Your online contact form doesn't allow users to attach files so I attached the output from the winget.exe --list command to my bug report (Issue # 43) at https://github.com/AdliceSoftware/UCheck/issues/43#issuecomment-2042664234. It's also attached here to this post.

    Hi @Tigzy :

The latest version number on that Release History & News page is always 2 to 3 weeks behind the Malwarebytes v4.x release notes posted by employee H4V0C's at https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/301315-malwarebytes-46/, so the "Latest" version detected by UCheck is almost always out-of-date and of no practical use. Note that H4V0C's release notes for the Malwarebytes v5.x upgrade that just started rolling out are posted at https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/308492-malwarebytes-5/.

Would it be possible to change the classification of Malwarebytes in UCheck from a "Compatible" to a "Community" app? I don't know if this might cause the occasional erroneous detection of a BETA version of Malwarebytes, but SUMo would often correctly detect a new Malwarebytes version within a day or two of its release.

FYI, winget sometimes detects the wrong version number for the latest available version of Malwarebytes because of the inconsistent numbering system Malwaerbytes now uses for their MBSetup.exe full offline installer. See my 25-Mar-2024 post <here> in 1PW's 13-Jun-2023 What's the conventional version number of the mb4_offline installer?.

It should fix itself. When you redo a scan, do the columns reset ? Same when you restart the software ?

No, because we would loose all the features associated.
Also, compatible soft always have precedence overs Winget (which has precedance over community)
We'll see if we can find more reliable data.

    Hi @Tigzy :

I updated to the latest UCheck v5.4.0.0-BETA2 (released 08-Apr-2024) and now all the apps previously classified as type "Winget" in v5.4.0.0-BETA1 (e.g., Belarc Advisor, Intel Diver & Support Assistant, etc.) have reverted back to "Community"apps. That would suggest that "Winget" no longer take precedence over "Community".

See the post in my bug report (Issue # 43) at https://github.com/AdliceSoftware/UCheck/issues/43#issuecomment-2043124841 for images and logs.

Can anybody having a custom Winget , or WingetUI tell me what inside this key ?
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\winget.exe

If if it points to the correct winget location they want to use ?

Nope it means the parsing issue makes it bail instead of parsing it wrong. We'll see if using "upgrade" instead of "list" fixes it back. It's scheduled in the next BETA.

BUT, only for "Installed", for the "Portable" it keeps column width...

For me that points to the default winget that gets installed with Microsoft.DesktopAppInstaller
But if you join winget insider channel you can sideload newer versions. Also, WingetUI comes with its own version that is sometimes newer than what is in the MS Store.
Being able to specify a path to winget.exe would be nice.

yeah using 'list' to find installed apps, then do 'upgrade' to find apps that have newer versions
Don't compare the winget list version with the installed apps collected by walking the registry uninstall trees

I have some portable programs installed on my pc, and UCheck do not even find them.

For your info: it also gave 2 false updates, StartAllBack and NTLite i have the latest installed, but UC said i should update to the latest versions. Version numbers i have installed.

Have you added your portables folder to Settings > Custom Locations?
UCheck is finding 666 portables in mine.

Sure, but there is no reason to expect that is ever gonna happen. How does wishful thinking resolve what amounts to a deficiency in your product concept? I'd guess this issue had a lot to do with the demise of SUMo. Kyle made a valiant effort to work around the problem with special casing, but it had to be back-breaking. I can't fault you for wanting to avoid that, but the reality is that UCheck is not much more useful than monitoring Major Geeks so long as the solution to a significant flaw is unrealistic.
