    This comment is golden:

    :thumb::argh:

Could ad blocking still be done at the dns level if this nonsense becomes reality?

This could be a hurdle that not even the genius of ublockO's developer, Raymond Hill, can overcome :(

I'm using NextDNS on my iOS devices as well for system-wide blocking and am happy with it (I used DNS filtering via a local VPN in AdGuard Pro but it's unreliable so I deactivated it). However, when using it on your desktop system alongside uBO you should consider the following aspects:

    1. There is no reason why blocking network requests via NextDNS would work better compared to uBO. If a corresponding network filter exists in one of the lists in uBO, those requests never leave the browser - well, at least in Firefox while disabling prefetching is unreliable in Chromium-based browsers. And if you feel that the available lists in uBO are not comprehensive enough you can easily add more lists like one of the Hagezi lists available in NextDNS. This is what I've done without any performance issues.
    2. Debugging is more complicated if a website doesn't behave as expected if both blocking methods are used.
    3. Using another blocker can prevent uBO's privacy or anti-blocker-defusing features from working correctly.

So I would rather recommend against it - unless you explicitly want a system-wide blocker. However, I don't see this necessity on openSuse Tumbleweed - Windows is another story, though. ;)

Thanks @summerheat for your comprehensive explanation.

I guess I'm just looking for another way to block ads, especially if Ndns could block ads adequately for my needs on its own, then I could possibly go with an extension-free browser. Even though I trust uBO, extensions of any kind and number are generally some sort of a security/privacy risk, no matter how small it may be. I didn't test with all available filters enabled in NextDNS but I kind of concluded it didn't block as well as uBO on its own, so I settled with some Privacy filters enabled in Ndns and basically defaults in uBO, and so far I'm pleased with the results. Now with the integrity API nonsense Google is implicating, an alternative to blocking ads without extensions may be necessary. Hopefully I'm wrong.

    EDIT

It's probably best to discuss anything more about Ndns in a dedicated thread, as this one is about uBO.

Yes even in Firefox it is better to disable these filter lists

    • AG Cookie Notices
    • AG Annoyances

    and enable:

    • EasyList Cookie Notices

Until the release of the next stable version.

    Thanks very much.
I purged and updated, and the new options showed.
As I use EasyList - Cookie Notices, and as uBlock filters - Cookie Notices says "to be used with EasyList's and/or Adguard's "Cookie Notices" list(s)," I added uBlock filters - Cookie Notices.
    Thanks again.

Apologies if posted earlier but I checked the AdGuard CNAME tracking lists (there are 3) in the filter list repository and it looks like AdGuard pulled them. If you click on "View" you get a 404 notice.

Right now I'm also using the NextDNS CNAME blocklist but it's 31/35 in use. In fact, there are quite a few lists in both AdGuard's and Easy List's that are showing 0 entries in use. So I just disable those. I can't see any really viable substitutes for the time being.

I had to purge and update once more to make it use the new uBlock filters - Cookie Notices.

I had the same issue lately and it turned out that the URL had changed.
Get the desired one from here and it will work again.

I've been finding the AdGuard cookie annoyance list better than EL or IDCAC for blocking cookie notices on European websites. I'd been using it before on uBO Lite (MV3) for Chromium with very good results.

If uBO is used on Firefox it's not a must to use an additonial filterlist to uncloak canonical names (view https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/Dashboard:-Settings#uncloak-canonical-names). However, if you want to add an AG list, next (small) list seems to be (more than) enough: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/A...rs/master/data/combined_original_trackers.txt.

Thanks, nicolaasjan. I read some of the link and got the impression that AdGuard Tracking Protection list under Privacy heading in uBO now contains the CNAME list. Maybe I read this wrong but anyway. Strangely, once I enabled that one, the list became 35/35 in NextDNS list. :cautious:

    It's all good though. :thumb:

They don't always appear, but I will try to play around a bit with more aggressive filters. But what I don't understand is how they are able to detect adblockers.

Hey Rasheed! Nothing here either--I disabled all the built-ins and those under Privacy too. The only thing that changed was the little embedded video that was blocked by EasyList and appeared when that was disabled. :)

I looked around and this Reddit thread did state that uBlock Origin is supposed to block anti-adblocker requests by default. So maybe there's a list in your dash that's currently disabled that would otherwise block requests like that, I dunno.

Edit: I checked on a site within cbs news new york b/c that also has an anti-adblocker message and here once again, it's the Easy Privacy list under Privacy heading. Do you have that one disabled? Although, I"d disabled that on your site and no anti-adblock messages, though.

When I visited those pages, the uBO ads and "quick fixes" lists both redirected the anti-adblock scripts even without any Dutch filter lists installed here.

If all else fails, disabling cosmetic filters on the offending page often solves the problem.

Custom lists > AdGuard Base Filter is breaking YouTube on Chrome latest version.
    01.png

As soon as I disable it, videos load again and comments populate as fast as usual.

Should I disable it for good?
Can't recall why I loaded that list in the first place...
