for windows - absolutely deadly. otherwise uninstall

 

And beware; you can't block all spyware, uh... telemetry, in Windows, because "important" MS domains are hardcoded in the system dll's, in order to bypass the hosts file...
Maybe the firewall can block the IP's. Otherwise your router will.

And for Linux; absolutely unnecessary fortunately.
By the way, it was Linux 30th anniversary yesterday.

 

For tracking prevention I just use Easy Privacy and the default privacy filter on uBO, or the default tracking filter if using AdGuard, because those filters are well maintained and frequently updated. In my experience trying out different privacy lists, adding more privacy filters (including Fanboy's Enhanced Trackers List) breaks too many sites, especially banks and others that run some browser checks to detect fraud.

Although Beerisgood is always listed as a contributor he is no longer part of the project.

sorry to read that. my bank is santander in germany. the only thing they use is usercentrics.eu because of cookies and (crappy) DSGVO. keep your head up.

 

My bank is ABN AMRO.
But fortunately Firefox itself blocks dpm.demdex.net and abnamro.tt.omtrdc.net.
uMatrix blocks tags.tiqcdn.com, but I haven't yet figured out if that is needed for something (has + sign in uBO).

 

Yes my bad, I now see that playing videos won't work, but I almost never play those trailers anyway. But even with the blocking of inline scripts, imdb.com still loads a bit slow, what a bunch of idiots. Also, I've noticed that when inline scripts are enabled, I get to see a horizontal scrollbar, I freaking hate this.

Yes I agree, the more filterlists the more problems. BTW, something I noticed is that somehow the "I don't care about cookies" extension seems to do a better job than the EasyList Cookie filterlist and on my laptop it stays on "0 used out of 20288", even after updating, not sure what's going on.

I wonder why these domains are often not found in e.g. Easy Privacy?
Are they maybe already blocked by other kind of rules?

Anyway, i think uMatrix will block the majority of these, as it will most likely be 3rd party sh*t.

I do not use uMatrix.
So far I've been fine with Kees1958's list.
Willing to modify, based on the answer I hope will be given to my issue 58.

For privacy I prefer Adguard and the other custom lists I use.

 

I see. I use AdGuard Tracking Protection as well.
And AdGuard URL Tracking Protection.

 

With the use of a few selected lists you get the maximum performance without the drawbacks (possible unreachable and/or broken websites) of using many lists.
On MT I have noticed that there is a tendency to use NextDNS with many filter lists.
In my opinion this is a less efficient option.

I have verified this often with my smartphone.
Using Private DNS for example breaks many public administration websites with SPID access.
Especially with third level access.

Which is one reason I rely more on built-in tracking protection in browsers lately.

 

I find that the built-in Firefox tracking protection actually breaks more sites for me than uBO with EP, probably because of the lack of fine-grained whitelisting.

 

Yes, its whitelisting is all or nothing but one could use it with standard mode and add Privacy Badger for easy troubleshooting. The thing is with Strict blocking you get more benefits from smart blocking/total cookie protection technology.

 

Then Firefox is probably doing a good job
some websites are plastered with trackers and other crap.

Mozilla do not claim to offer a full featured protection, but they offer simple switches to eliminate those (click on the violent shield if colored)
