Ubisoft plans to send cease & desist legal letters to operators of DDoS-for-hire services, also known as DDoS booters or DDoS stressors.
The company said it plans on making this step as part of a global action plan to curb DDoS attacks aimed at Rainbox Six Siege multiplayer servers.
DDOS ATTACKS HAVE PUMMELED RAINBOX SIX SIEGE SERVERS
The French video game company has been under a wave of DDoS attacks ever since last week when it launched the Operation Ember Rise update for the Rainbow Six Siege game.
LEGAL ROUTE IS HIGHLY UNLIKELY TO SUCCEED
If Ubisoft's plan to use cease & desist letters will work is up for debate. After all, DDoS booters provide illegal services. It's not like they have an incentive to follow the law. Everything these services provide is criminal in nature.
Ubisoft's other DDoS mitigation measures will most likely play a more significant role in reducing the attacks' impact on its platform.

Ubisoft said it recorded a 93% drop in the frequency of DDoS attacks aimed at Rainbox Six Siege (R6S) servers after the company started sending legal threats to DDoS-for-hire services and abusive players as part of a larger set of countermeasures the company announced last month.
At the time, the game maker said it was seeing a massive wave of DDoS attacks, which made R6S gameplay near impossible.

In an update published last night, the gaming giant confirmed that it has indeed taken legal actions, and that the September announcement wasn't just an empty threat to intimidate abusers.
The company confirmed sending cease-and-desist letters to DDoS-for-hire services (also known as DDoS booters, or DDoS stressors). Furthermore, Ubisoft said it also filed legal complaints against "prominent DDoS/DoS attackers, and cheat makers."
LAWSUITS ALWAYS WORK
The referenced "cheat maker" is most likely a player named JVL, owner of the MizuSoft website, known for hosting R6S cheating software.

The prevalence of attacks saw fast action from Ubisoft, outlining planned gameplay, technical, and legal crackdowns to combat the attacks. Those efforts eventually aided the 93 percent drop in DDoS activity, hugely reducing the presence across Rainbow Six Siege. And with a new lawsuit filed by Ubisoft, we're seeing legal action targeting individuals allegedly tied to third-party DDoS services.

Court documents obtained by Polygon target several individuals behind "SNG.ONE," a website that sells DDoS subscriptions. With tiered memberships, their website reportedly allows individuals to easily target Rainbow Six Siege services, alongside other top titles like Fortnite, Call of Duty, and FIFA. Ubisoft reportedly looks to see the services shut down while granting damages and fees.

"The DDoS Services represent an enormous threat to R6S and Ubisoft. The DDoS Services have caused, and are continuing to cause, serious and irreparable harm to Ubisoft, its valuable player community, and its business interests," the document claims.
The lawsuit follows various efforts to combat player frustration in Rainbow Six Siege, tackling hacking, boosting, exploits, and more throughout 2019.
