Turning a router into a dedicated firewall

    Is there a way to overwrite an old ASUS (RT-AC87U) router's firmware to turn it into a dedicated firewall? It is already capable of being a firewall, but I want to boost my network's security by making it a dedicated firewall. My linksys router's firewall seems a bit...unsophicated. Or, would it be better to just buy a dedicated firewall?
