    Hi guru,

Download the attachment to this post and save it as afterscore.reg

Then doubleclick that file and confirm you want to merge it with the registry.

Then delete the old c:\searchhook.txt and repeat the regedit /e c:\searchhook.txt "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks" command

    Post the new one, please.

    Regards,

    Pieter

    REGEDIT4

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks]
    "{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497}_"=""
    "{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497}"=""

One thing I just noticed though, after adding that file to reg, it seems to have changed the icons for txt files/word docs, that normal?

We will do this in two steps.

Download and save the attachment in this post as remUSH.reg

    Doubleclick and confirm.

Next use the one in this post. Save as restoldUSH.reg

Can you elaborate on the changed icons a bit when you are done?

    Regards,

    Pieter

Now it does not let me add that one, says "Cannot import C:\DOWNLO~1\RESTOL~1.REG: The specified file is not a registry script. You can import only registery files.

As for the icons, word docs I had saved now have the Setup icon, txt files have some floppy disk icon, they still open with the correct program though.

Well, I just did another hjt scan, and the file didn't appear to be there anymore.

    Guru19,

Is that line still in your log? o_O

I couldn't find any mistakes in the file that wouldn't merge, but I mad a new one. Save as urlsearchhook.reg and same MO.

    Regards,

    Pieter

That one gave the same error too. And no, that line is not in my log anymore.

Would you like me to post a new hjt log?

That regfile works for me. o_O

Your log is clean. Can you do this one more time:

Delete the old c:\searchhook.txt and repeat the regedit /e c:\searchhook.txt "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks" command

    Post the new one, please.

I will try and come up with something else to get that Searchhook back in if necessary.

    Regards,

    Pieter

I must be doing something wrong, it can not find the searchhook.txt file, though it was finding it before.

I think regedit has been disabled.
Here goes hoping that it was my fault.

Download the attachment and save it as trythis.inf
Rightclick the file and choose install.

Can you do a Find Files for regedit.exe
I think it should be in the Windows folder, but I'm not sure for ME.
If you find it what does happen when you doubleclick it?
