First, if this has already been talked about, I apologize. I dug through the search, but couldn't find it.

So, I've come across that application http://us.trendmicro.com/us/products/enterprise/web-protection-add-on/, which, according to Trend Micro:

Except for the malicious web sites blocking, the bot protection, or should I say detection, is based on RUBotted http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/rubotted, which has been in beta development, without any update, for a long time now. I guess, they got what they wanted, and just forgot about updating or killing the RUBotted.

Trend Micro Web Protection Add-On is a paid product. I wonder why would people pay for a product that, in what comes to bot protection, it will only detect and not prevent? Maybe there is, but, I don't understand why. They should focus on prevention, rather than on just alerting for that activity. Sure, alerting is better than nothing... But, then make it free product. Now, paying for something, just to get an alert that bot related activity has been found, and do nothing about it... Well, I don't understand...

I mean, wouldn't people just pay, for example, for Norton 2009 products line, which offers bot prevention, and other products as well?
