    Hello Wild People

It's me again with a quick question that I just know some kind person will put me right.

My Download Transfer rate starts off at about 20 odd KB/s and finishes up in avery short while at about 1.50KB/s so consequently whatever I D/L takes forever.

Any ideas on how to perk it up a bit, I would like to be stable at 28.8 but I think thats a dream!

    My OS is Pack/Bell, 30GB, 550Megs, 128RAM, Dial-up.

Any glimmer of hope would be appreciated.

    TIA Cochise.

    That's an excellent program Pieter.

I use Fresh Download and I like it.

    It doesn't have any spyware.

Another cool thing about this program is you can integrate your av program to scan downloaded files.
In the options>integration tab you browse for your av program where it says "virus checker".

Thanks for the help. Downloaded Fresh D/L seems OK upto now. I did'nt have a Manager before, I always thought they were just a Gimmick! (Obviously not)

I forgot to mention I'm using 98se so is there anything else I should know with regard to boosting my Transfer Rate Please, anything would be a bonus, believe me.

Very Best Regards to all, Cochise.

    Hi Cochise,

Doesn't always help, but it never hurts: http://www.dslreports.com/tools
If anything can be improved it will surface there.

    Regards,

    Hi Cochise,

Some of the tools will be useful for dial-up as well.

    Thanks again to all concerned,

I find D/L Manager AOK after a tryout, it improved my Trans rate to around 3 to 4 KB/s but then I came across another little bit of info that has now boosted me up to between 5.00 and 6.00 KB/s by changing the packet size to Small. I had delusions of passing on this snippet to you all, then I found Krusty had already done it (Damn!) LOL.
I shall keep striving for faster Transfers tho', so I will be back.

The very best to you all, Cochise.
