After installing and running Tiny Personal Firewall Pro or whatever, latest version, it doesn't seem to let me download files from Internet Explorer 6. I am running under win2kpro and the error message is something along the lines of:

You do not have permission to run this file or something along the lines of that. When I turn the firewall off, everything works fine. Can someone please tell me how to fix this problem? Anyone else use this firewall or other firewalls, who can tell me how I can fix this problem? I have already emailed Tiny Personal Firewall company and am waiting for an email response..

LOL hey there fatpizzaman! D@mn that is a good name!

I have extensive experience with TPF on many different machines and OSes but I have never seen that one before.

    First off:

won't do, please verify which firewall you have.

Then what I would do if I were you, is download the Kerio Personal Firewall. It is basically the next version of TPF. Everything works the same, but some security holes are plugged. Get it here:

    http://www.kerio.com/dwn/kpf2-win.exe

If the problem persists then post so in this thread. Also, insead of "something along the lines of that" type errors, please report exact messages. The more we have to go on the faster we can help you.

Is Kerio Personal Firewall 2 better than TPF 3.0 Pro? Are they from the same company or what?

The error message I get when TPF 3.0  is running is the following:

This occurs when I download a file:

You do not have permission to open this file.
Set the owner of the file or an administrator to gain permission.

Now, when i turn off firewall, the download seems to work. What setting should I adjust to get rid of this annoying problem whilst also getting HIGH security?

fatpizzaman - Is your OS WinXP? I don't have that, but it sounds to me as though you need to be logged in with administrator privileges (need an XP user to help with this one) , although I must admit that I don't understand why turning the firewall off would then allow it to work.

Have you seen that same message before when doing other d/l's?

Are the programs that you do manage to d/l and install all working correctly? Pete

If it is TPF 3 you are running then this is not just a firewall. It includes so called Sandbox technology which means you can set restrictions/security policies on what every application on your system is allowed to do. For instance you can prevent one application spawning another or altering the registry or opening/writing particular files. You are going to have to take a look at the advanced settings for IE6 and alter things accordingly. I also understand that when installing the application you have to be logged on as "Administrator" not just a user with administrator rights.

I had TPF 3 installed for 2 days before getting rid of it. First of all I realised that this product is not quite ready for release. Secondly, even though it is very powerful I simply do not have the time to devote to learn how to use it properly. It is certainly not an install it and forget it type of app. I have gone back to Kerio 2.14.
