    hey observence!
I'm doing quite good. I'll keep it. I already unchecked Act as Server and Allow ICMP Traffic as you suggested. I like it a lot, specially for all it's extra-security features such as .DLL fingerprinting, Stealth Browsing Mode, IDS... etc.
How long have you been running it?

BTW, thank you a lot for those useful links on ports and protocols. I've been able to understand a little better how all this stuff works after reading them!

i believe i was using sygate on 98se and have used it since. on my test box i used kerio for about 3 yrs.........if i remember correctly.

i use Karens Whois to check any suspicious traffic.

to test sygate itself plug directly into the pc from your modem (bypassing a router) and run Shields Up.
if your modem is a modem/fw it wont test sygate itself.
    glad you like it;-)

I see that Sygate allows you to use Whois directly form within the logs. Isn't it the same?

I'm going to sound stupid but I don't think I can do that, see, my connection comes with the phone line, and it uses a microfilter to split phone/dsl signal so the plug is smaller to fit the ethernet port on my PC...:doubt:

YES, it does. All on one beautiful screen. Block, allow, or ask if no rule exists at which point you make a rule from the alert. Also checks MD5 for changes.

    Thank you again!

I'm sticking to Sygate cause i like it a lot. Granular, effective and light even on my low-end system. I was thinking of trying out Kerio but read somewhere that it causes random BSOD's out of nowhere. And also found that it's specially not compatible with Panda Cloud wich is my AV.

If someone's using Sygate, would you mind to specify:

    -Version
    -Build
-CPU idle usage with no internet activity
-CPU usage while using internet-facing programs

I recently upgraded to the latest build 3408 (i know it's a debug build) and noticed a slight increase on CPU usage in comparison to build 2710, so I'd like to confirm.

    Many thanks

    Thank you
Looks very light compared to mine:

    CPU idle 1~6%

    CPU while on internet 3~10%

    Do you have logging enabled?
